James "Sonny" Harris

Funeral services for Mr. Sonny Harris, 72, of the Fairplay Community of Panola County, Texas, will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 17, 2012 at the Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lynn Lowe officiating. Burial will follow in the Waldrop Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Thursday, November 15, 2012 from 6-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. James O. “Sonny” Harris died November 14, 2012 in Carthage, Texas. Mr. James Oliver “Sonny” Harris was born May 1, 1940 in the Fairplay Community of Panola County where he spent his entire life. He was the son of Sylvan “Bo” and Libby Langley Harris. Sonny graduated form Beckville schools and attended Panola Junior College. He married his high school sweetheart Amanda Jo Craig September 13, 1958 and together they celebrated 54 years of marriage. Mr. Harris worked for Texas Eastman over 34 years. Sonny was an avid football fan who rarely missed a Carthage High School, Texas Longhorn or Dallas Cowboy football game. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend and lifelong member of the Allison Chapel United Methodist Church He is preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Harris is survived by his loving wife, Jo Harris of Fairplay, three sons, Greg Harrris and wife Judy of Dallas, Mark Harris and wife Bobbie of Fairplay and Randy Harris and wife Susan of Clayton, grandchildren, Craig Harris of Victoria, Eric Harris and wife Kasi of Longview, Kaitlin Harris of Shreveport, Taylor Harris of Victoria, Chelsey McClendon and husband drew of Lufkin, one great grandchild, Marliegh Jo McClendon of Lufkin; brother, Ronny Harris of Fairplay; sisters, Diane Harris and Sylvia May of Beckville. Serving as pallbearers will be, Gary Rogerson, James Browning, David Chapman, Curtis Crabtree, Reagan Gentry, Michael Harris, Daniel Allred and Travis Chapman. Honorary pallbearers will be Lynn Sharp, Earl Malone, Hal Horton, Bill Langley, Harold Poole, Jimmy Gentry, Bob Browning and Harold Allred. The family request memorials be made to the Allison Chapel United Methodist Church or the Carthage Athletic Booster Club.
