Mr. Jerry Davidson

A memorial service will be held at Hawthorn Funeral Home on February 17 at 11:00 am and will be officiated by Kevin Moore of Mt. Zion Methodist Church. Reception to follow at Mt. Zion Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, in DeBerry. Jerry was born in Shreveport, La to parents Royce and Pernye Lawless Davidson on Nov. 28, 1939, and passed away peacefully on February 8. He spent his life in DeBerry, attending Elysian Fields Schools, later attending Louisiana Tech University, where he met his beautiful wife, Bette. They lived in Dallas, Shreveport and Virginia before finally settling back in DeBerry on the Davidson family land and we all know how difficult it was to get him to stray very far from DeBerry. Jerry and Bette raised 2 beautiful daughters, Shannon and Leslie and helped raise their handsome grandsons, Reed Harmon Parker and Jackson “Jax” Lee Parker. Jerry worked for Crystal Oil in Shreveport for many years, before starting his own Salt Water disposal business, retiring from there in early 2000’s. Those of you than knew Jerry, knew that his loves were his family, playing golf, working in the garden, watching his purple martins fly around and the Dallas Cowboys. We can’t forget to mention all the nights he and his cousins played dominoes at the Ice House or password at the kitchen table. He was one of the most generous people you would ever know and he also demanded a level of respect that was well justified. He pushed his girls to be the best they could be, no matter what that was and he was their biggest supporter and cheerleader. Jerry is survived by his daughters, Shannon Lee Davidson and Leslie Davidson Parker, both of DeBerry, his grandsons, Reed Harmon Parker and Jackson "Jax" Lee Parker, niece Hillary Davidson and Zoie Davidson-Perry of Hallsville, nephews Terry Davidson of Dallas and Kirk Davidson of Florida and numerous cousins and friends, especially those that took time out of their day to call, stop by, cook him food or just ask about him. Your thoughtfulness will always be cherished. Jerry was preceded in death by his beautiful wife Bette Grace, his beloved brother Royce Hillery “Higgy” and his parents, Royce and Pernye Davidson. The family would like to say an extra thank you to 4 very special people that helped take care of Jerry during the last 4 years of his life. Shane Dailey, Dee Parks, Sherry Tindal and Shannon Harvey, you all made it possible for Shannon and Leslie to keep their Dad at home, sitting in his own recliner, watching TV and telling everyone what to do. Your thoughtfulness, love and care of Jerry will never be forgotten. To the staff at Marshall Manor West, we could not have asked for a better place for Dad to finish out the last 4 months of his life. Everyone there was so patient, careful, loving and caring with Dad, and he usually had a smile on his face from someone making him laugh or Dad making them laugh.
