Mr. Keith Chapman

Funeral services for Mr. R. Keith Chapman, 73 yrs. of Tyler, Texas, will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 13, 2025, at the Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Walters, Mr. Mike Parker and Rev. Joel Enge officiating. Burial will follow in the Gary Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Visitation will be 6-8:00 p.m., Thursday evening, June 12, 2025 at the funeral home. Mr. Rayburn Keith Chapman was born in Carthage, Texas January 24, 1952. He passed this life on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 in Tyler, Texas. Keith was born to the marriage of Gloria Jean Smith and Rayburn Grady Chapman. He was raised and schooled in Carthage, Texas graduating from Carthage High School with the Bulldog class of 1970. Keith attended Panola College and the University of Texas in Austin where he obtained his bachelor’s in accounting. He was a follower of Jesus Christ and of the Baptist faith. Mr. Chapman spent 23 years in public accounting through the Chapman & Robinson then Chapman & Williams CPA firms. He transitioned from public accounting to business brokerage where he owned and operated Horizon Business Group. He was recognized as a lifetime certified business intermediary (CBI), Board Certified Broker (BCB), and a Fellow of the M&A Source. He was a past president of the Texas Association of Business Brokers and co-authored 5 courses in the industry. Mr. Chapman held many civic positions of leadership in his community which led to him being named Citizen of the Year in Carthage, Texas. He served as past president of both the Carthage Lions Club and Panola County Chamber of Commerce, was active in the Sunrise Rotary Club of Tyler, served on the boards of Servants of Christ International, and as commissioner of the Dixie Baseball League as well as a devoted member of Green Acres Baptist Church Safety Team. He loved hunting, fishing, working at the farm and flying, having held his pilot’s license for over 47 years but his family was his heart. Keith never shirked a task! He never met a stranger and was always a man of his word. He was quick to lend a helping hand to anyone with anything, big or small and led by example. His faith and personal walk with God impacted many! He will forever be remembered as a loyal and cherished friend, father, grandfather, uncle and husband. Mr. Chapman is survived by his loving wife, Christa Chapman of Tyler; daughter, Mandy Powell and husband Michael of Carthage; step children, Tyler Fleet and wife Erin of Tyler, TX; Tanner Emery and girlfriend Meghan Judd of Frisco, TX; Jake Hardin and wife Morgan of Burleson, TX; Nick Hardin and wife Kelli of Houston, TX; grandchildren Miles Powell, Miller Powell and wife Gracie, Mason Powell, Molly Powell, Everly Joy Fleet, Eli, Braxton and Grayson Hardin and Hadley, Riley and Weston Hardin. He is preceded in death by his parents, stepfather, J.R. Brannon and his beloved son, Keric Chapman. Serving as pallbearers are Miles, Miller, and Mason Powell, Jason Price, Jake Hardin and Nick Hardin. Honorary pallbearers are Randy Taylor, Mike Parker, Steve Roberson, Ronnie Wolfe, Dave Robinson, Malcolm Alford and Bob Christianson. The family suggests memorials be made to Kingdom Life Academy or Servants of Christ International.
