Ben Born

Funeral services for Mr. Ben F. Born, 79 of Carthage, Texas will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 15, 2011 at the First Christian Church with Rev. Don Cocklin and Rev. Paul Cocklin officiating. Burial will follow in the Six Mile Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Family visitation will be Friday, January 14, 2011 from 6–8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Born passed away Thursday, January 13, 2011 in Longview, Texas. Mr. Ben Franklin Born was born October 19, 1931 in the Snap Community of Panola County, Texas to the marriage of Frederick Franklin and Mary Elizabeth Knight Born. Ben was one of six children and attended Snap Community Schools as well as Carthage Schools. He served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War and then in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. After retiring from the military in 1971 from Barksdale Air Force Base, Ben owned and operated Ben’s Texaco until his retirement. He met and married Blanche Marie Holloway on June 4, 1956 in Gregg County, celebrating over 53 years together before she preceded him in death on January 15, 2010. Mr. Born was a long time member of the First Christian Church and served as a board member. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter-in-law, Jennifer Born and brother, Melvin Born. Mr. Born is survived by his sons, Sam Born and wife Mary Anna of Carthage, Michael Born of Carthage; daughters, Cheryl Oney and husband Greg of Carthage, Carol K McIlwain and husband David of Carthage; brothers, Comer Born of Lancaster, Sam Q. Born of Carthage; sisters, Mary Jo Nance of Carthage, Jimmie Faye Fowler of Bossier City, Louisiana; grandchildren, Melissa Douglas and husband Joel of Carthage, Jeff Born of Carthage, Amanda Peavey and husband Jimmy of Beckville, Jason Wray of Carthage, Benjamin Born of Henderson, James Born of Virginia Beach, Virginia; Joshua Born of Carthage, Isaac Born of Fort Belvior, Virginia, Joel McIlwain of Carthage, Jade McIlwain of Carthage; great grandchildren, Jacob Zink, Jaxon Douglas and Sebastian Douglas all of Carthage, Elijah Peavy and Carlie Jo Peavy of Beckville, Cahrista Wray of Gary; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Serving as pallbearers are Jeff Born, Joel Douglas, Jason Wray, Benjamin Born, Joshua Born, and Joel McIlwain. Honorary pallbearers are James Born and Isaac Born. Family requests donations be made to the First Christian Church, 208 S. Market St., or Six Mile Cemetery Association, 1504 Dixie Lake Rd Carthage, Texas 75633.
