Mrs. Betty Sue Cheshire

Funeral services for Mrs. Betty Sue Cheshire, 87, of Carthage, Texas will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 5, 2015 at the Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Allen Tilley officiating. Burial will follow in the Odd Fellows Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. The visitation will be 6-8:00 p.m. Friday night at Hawthorn Funeral Home. Mrs. Cheshire died September 1, 2015 peacefully at her Carthage home surrounded by her family. Mrs. Betty Sue Holland Cheshire was born October 27, 1927 in Fairplay, Texas. She was one of nine children born to the marriage of Rommie and Beulah Mae Melton Holland. She was raised and schooled in the Fairplay Community of Panola County, Texas, later married Alton Carroll Cheshire, June 3, 1944 and they celebrated over 50 years of marriage before he preceded her in death in 1995. Betty Sue attended First Baptist Church of Carthage, loved to paint and work in her garden and cook for the children and grandchildren she loved. She is also preceded in death by her parents, six brothers and one sister, Wadford Holland, Opal Holland Beauchamp, Donald Holland, Hurley Holland, Dan Holland and Gene Holland. Mrs. Cheshire is survived by her children, Martha Cheshire Melton of Carthage, Joe Eddie Cheshire and wife Cathy of Carthage, sister, Nelene Holland Pike of Carthage, sister-in-law, Billy Holland of Fairplay, grandchildren, Lorie Melton of Carthage, Tonya Melton Cooke and husband John of Carthage, Marla Melton Newell and husband Jeff of Camden, TN, Mary Cheshire Garcia and husband Richard of Carthage, step grandchildren, Tommy and Sarah Johnston of Red Oak, Tasha and Rocky Hayden of Carthage, great grandchildren, Carla Holland Luedtke of Hallsville, Blake Holland, Ali Jones, Caroline Cooke, Darren Melton, Arron Garcia, and Abigail Garcia all of Carthage, Dakoda Newell and Miley Newell both of Camden, TN, step great grandchildren, Savanah and Tiffiny Dillon, Julia, Tray and Troy Johnston, four great great grandchildren, Adalyn Garcia, Jaylin Moodey, Alyssa Hearn, and Maddy Huntley, numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Serving as pallbearers will be; Darren Melton, Arron Garcia, Blake Holland, John Cooke, III, Richard Garcia, and Tommy Johnson.
