Mrs. Brenda Carol Hays

Famous last words of Brenda Godwin Hays of Marshall Texas “I am 74 and I have had a good ride”. It was with tears that we held her hand as she gracefully entered into the gates of Heaven. She loved her Bill, William Hays, with all of her heart and they had a great time the last 19 years fishing, riding motorcycles, garage sale bopping, hanging at the Dairy Queen on Tuesdays, and just loving life. She never missed an opportunity to tell you about her “beautiful daughter” Vanessa and her husband, Craig Pittman, who spoiled her daughter rotten. Stick around for a minute and you will hear about her handsome grandson, Morgan Pinkston who apparently did no wrong and her absolutely beautiful and brilliant granddaughters and the wonderful men they married, Meagen & JR Ross and Chelsea & Cameron Copelin. She found great joy(and a little humor) in watching them raise her great grandchildren, Callahan, Ryleigh, Camille, and Brighton. She truly never met a stranger and there was never a quick trip to town when you went with her. She loved working and called McAdams Propane her second home. Thanksgiving and Christmas will never be the same without her. She loved the holidays because she got to see her nieces and nephews, Jerri & Bubba Brandenburg, Joyce & Billy Hanna, Dale & Clemma Welch, Helen & John Voss, and Phyllis & Darrel Griffith. There is not enough room to mention all of her family, extended family, and wonderful friends by name and we would surely leave some out if we tried. She loved all of her people big and let them know. We have no doubt she danced into the pearly gates (although she had no rhythm) to meet her parents Lessie & Perry Godwin, her sister Evylene, her Uncle Joe Godwin and nieces & nephews Forrest Welch, and June & Walter Powell. We are so blessed to have been on the ride with her! Thank you for loving us all so big. You may be gone, but you forever shaped our lives and will never be forgotten. In her words “Love you! Come see me sometime”. We look forward to seeing you again. The family will be accepting visitors on Monday evening, October 21, 2024 from 5:30-7:30 at Hawthorn Funeral Home in Carthage. On Tuesday morning at 10:00, October 22, 2024, her celebration of life will be officiated at Hawthorn Funeral Home by Reverend Dale Welch and Reverend John Voss. Her body will be escorted to its final resting place at Miller Cemetery in Carthage by pallbearers hand picked by her: William Carroll, Scotty Davis, Cole Griffith, Cody Massey, Tony Morgan, LT Perkins, Lynn Raibourn, Bruce Shaver, Ricky Sipes, and Dusty Wells. Instead of flowers, she requested donations be made to Miller Cemetery or to provide food for the family to gather after the service. A donation box will be setup at the funeral home and checks can be made out to Miller Cemetery. Food can be taken to Cedar Grove Baptist Tuesday morning.
