Mrs. Carlene Hooper

Funeral services for Mrs. Carlene Hooper, 94, of the Yarnell Community of Panola County, Texas will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 7, 2021 at the Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steven Hill and Rev. Matt Comer officiating. Burial will follow in the Reeves McMillan Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Visitation will be 6-8:00 pm. Friday night at Hawthorn Funeral Home. Mrs. Carlene Carswell Hooper was born July 28, 1927 in the Logan Community of Panola County, Texas. She passed this life August 2, 2021 in Carthage, Texas. Carlene was one of seven children born to the marriage of Carl and Lou Alma Pyle Carswell. She was raised in Logan attending schools there. Carlene met her love Pierce Berdette Hooper and they married in August of 1945 and celebrated 66 years of marriage before he preceded her in death March of 2012. Mrs. Hooper worked for Fab Steel in Waskom, Texas retiring after many years of service. She was a charter and lifelong member of the New Shady Grove Baptist Church. Carlene had a spiritual gift of service to others and she served those by cooking for her church, community and family. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a son Larry Douglas Hooper. Mrs. Hooper is survived by her loving children, son, Terry Mickel Hooper and wife Patti of Carthage; daughter, Jo Ann Parker and husband Thomas Ronald of New Iberia, LA; brothers, Benny Carswell and wife Barbara of Dubach, LA, and Carl “Buddy” Carswelll and wife Mary Sue of Dallas; sisters, Joycee Mae Yount, Nancy Gibbs, Marguerette Carswell, and Judy Wilkins and husband Ricky; grandchildren, Heidi Martin and husband Andy of New Iberia, LA, Ronda Johnson of Germany, Mary Heather Hovey and husband Todd of Joaquin, Darrik Hooper and wife Donna of Beckville, Tiffani Perkins of Carthage, Mia Davis and husband Marty of Deadwood, Tilden Hooper and wife Melissa of Saginaw; thirteen great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren; Special cousin, Lurlene Cadenhead of Carthage; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Serving as pallbearers will be, Todd Hovey, James Hovey, Tilden Hooper, Marty Davis, Darrik Hooper, and Brian Pride. Honorary pallbearers will be, Andy Martin, Reagan Hovey, Joseph Martin, and David Lojo. The family suggests memorials to the Reeves McMillan Cemetery Assoc.
