Dalton Leroy Griffith

Funeral services for Mr. Dalton Leroy Griffith, 93 of Carthage, Texas will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, June 27, 2011 at the Carthage Church of Christ with Mr. Steve Wiggins and Mr. Larin Wallace officiating. Burial will follow in Restland Memorial Park under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Family visitation will be Sunday, June 26, 2011 from 6 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Griffith died Friday, June 24, 2011 in Carthage. Mr. Dalton Leroy Griffith was born December 26, 1917 in Dotson, Texas to Willie Peter and Myrtie Madora Lake Griffith. The baby of three, Leroy attended and completed Byfield Schools. He met and later married Ouida Lorene Murphy on July 21, 1938 and together they celebrated 71 years of marriage until she preceded him in death on June 21, 2009. Mr. Griffith worked his younger years in mangement for the Panola County Road and Bridge Department operating heavy equipment, and than began farming and ranching in East Texas and South Louisiana. He owned and operated Ragley Enterprises, then soon began working with his son at Don Griffith Construction. “The oldest swinger in town – porch swing builder that is”, Mr. Griffith was known for his handmade swings and other furniture. A longtime member of the Carthage Church of Church, Leroy enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. He is preceded in death by his wife, son and daughter-in-law, Don and Linda Ann Brewster Griffith; siblings, Jeddie Griffith Barnes Redding and Bobbie Griffith Leslie; grandson, Justin Wade Griffith and a special niece, Delilah Bassett. Surviving Mr. Griffith is his son, Jimmy C. Griffith and wife Jan of Colleyville; grandchildren, John Mark Griffith and wife Michelle of Southlake, Todd Griffith and wife Kim of Carthage and Stacie Griffith Malone and husband Todd of Carthage; great grandchildren, Christen Elizabeth Griffith, Ian Thomas Griffith Baylee and Brewster Griffith, Logan, Cheston, Peyton and Whitton Malone, numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Serving as pallbearers will be Ken Baker, Troy Lake, Don Bassett, Todd Griffith, John Mark Griffith and Roland Haines. Honorary pallbearers will be Ian Griffith, Brewster Griffith, Cheston Malone, Peyton Malone, Whitton Malone and Mike Barton. The family request memorials be made in Mr. Griffith’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association or the charity of your choice
