Mr. David Pass

Graveside funeral services for Mr. David Pass, 82, of Carthage, Texas will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2020 at the Odd Fellows Cemetery with Rev. Dwain Smith and Rev. Mary Smith officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Mr. David Ray Pass was born June 16, 1937 in Gary, Texas. He passed this life May 13, 2020 in Tyler, Texas. David was the oldest of four children born to the marriage of Willie Copeland Pass and Rosa Bell Witherspoon Pass. He was raised and schooled in Gary, attended Panola College where he met his beloved wife Mary Ann Palmer. He would obtain his Bachelors in Education from Stephen F. Austin State University. Mr. Pass served as a teacher in Conroe I.S.D., Deer Park I.S.D., and would retire from Carthage I.S.D. after many years of teaching through the DECA Program, as well as teaching the kids how to “Jitter-bug”. David was active in Central Baptist Church as a deacon. He loved vintage cars, skiing, dancing, and sharing his garden’s wealth with his community. David was active in the Odd Fellows Lodge and spent countless hours with Mary maintaining the Odd Fellows Cemetery. He was a caring and loving community minded man, father and grandfather. He is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Mark Pass; sister, Maxine Harris and granddaughter, Kristen Mary Warden. Mr. Pass is survived by his loving wife, Mary Pass of Carthage; son, Tim Pass and wife Tiffany of Gary; daughter, Karen Pepper and husband Glen of W. Monroe, LA; sisters, Betty Sue Smith of Carthage, and JoAnn Whiteside of Gary; daughter-in-law, Neashia Simpson and husband Kelly of Tyler; grandchildren, Jess Warden and wife Jessica of W. Monroe, LA, Ashley Rentrop and husband Bruce of Lafayette, LA, Micah Pass and wife Amy of Carthage, Johnnie Pass of Gary, step grandchildren, Griffen Pepper of W. Monroe, LA, Bailie Conn and husband Chase of Bossier, Walt Pepper of W. Monroe, LA; numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
