Funeral services for Elbert Charles Nations, 89 of Hemingway, South Carolina formerly of Carthage, Texas will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 1, 2013 at the Williams Hill Original Free Will Baptist Church, 420 Williams Hill Road, Hemingway, South Carolina under the direction of Hemingway Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Thursday morning from 10–11:00 a.m. at the church. Local funeral services will be 3:00 p.m., Sunday, August 4, 2013 at the First Free Will Baptist Church of Carthage. Burial will follow in the Rehobeth Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Family visitation will be Saturday, August 3, 3013 from 6 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Nations passed away Monday, July 29, 2013 in Florence, South Carolina. Mr. Elbert Charles Nations was born in Springhill, Arkansas, a son of the late William D. and Katie V. Sinyard Nations. He was a retired maintenance foreman, a certified mechanic and was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII. He was a member of Williams Hill Original Free Will Baptist Church and served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, choir member, and Worship Leader. He traveled extensively in his younger years working in gas and oil construction. Mr. Nations also was a founding member of First Free Will Baptist Church of Carthage, Texas and served on the building committee for the church. He also volunteered on mission construction projects in Carthage and Orangeburg, South Carolina. He was also an avid deer hunter. Survivors include his wife, Mary Elsie Nations; children, Charles Dennis Nations and wife Kathy, Barbara Dian Scott and husband Robert, Pamela Gail Bryant, Steve Dale Nations and wife Wendy, Jerry Lee Nations and wife Twila, Glenn Ramon Nations and wife Tracy; stepchildren, Gloria Young and Theron Scott and wife Camille; 18 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; sisters, Ola Mae Mullinax, Ruth Chamblee and Nellie Bobo and husband Guy; sister-in-law, Gloria Nations; and son-in-law, Freddie Armstrong. Mr. Nations is preceded in death by his first wife, Pauline Nations; daughter, Judy Lynne Armstrong; grandson, Eric Charles Nations, brothers, Archie Nations, Floyd Nations, Roy Nations and wife Eva Jewel, Elmer Nations and wife Ena, and Barney Nations and wife Mamie; sister, Mary Nations Reese and husband Brian; sons-in-law, Douglas Bryant and Ben Young; and brothers-in-law, Bobby Chamblee and Tommy Mullinax. Memorial donations may be made to the Williams Hill Original Free Will Baptist Church Building Fund, 420 Williams Hill Road, Hemingway, South Carolina 29554.
