Irene Campbell

Funeral services for Mrs. Irene Catherine Campbell, 88, of Carthage, Texas will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at the Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Cleetus Adrian and Rev. M. Klink officiating. Burial will follow in the Odd Fellows Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Family visitation will be Monday evening from 6–8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. On Saturday morning, July 16, 2011, our mother winged her way home to the place she had been longing to see for a long time. She would often say that Heaven must be a wonderful place. Her life long desire was to see her Savior who sacrificed His life for her that she might live with Him. Mrs. Irene Catherine Campbell was born July 9, 1923 on Kennie Row, Pennsylvania into the family of Austin and Rose Robinson who already had five boys. When she was less than two years of age her mother died in a house fire and at a very early age she became the keeper of the house for her five brothers and father who were all coal miners in the Pennsylvania hills. Irene met and married Perry Campbell and to this union was born three children: Martha, Wilma and Rex. In 1957 they came to Carthage for the purpose of re-opening the Nazarene Church that had been closed. Mr. Campbell also started Campbell’s Appliance and she was a big part of this work. Her whole life was wrapped up in the church and what she could do for it. She taught Sunday School for over 60 years and was the church janitor until three years ago when her health began to fail. In August of 2010 she was told she had breast cancer and after much treatment there was nothing more they could do for her. She testified that God had healed her and He did, for her last few months were spent with no pain and a lot of peace. She quietly slipped into His presence and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Irene is preceded in death by her husband; grandson, Van Alan Campbell; great granddaughter, Willa Catherine and two sons-in-law, Charles Allen and Rev. Cycil Adrian. Those left to mourn are her daughters, Martha Margaret Allen of Orange and Rev. Wilma Adrian of Carthage; son, Rex Alan Campbell and wife Sharon of Carthage; grandchildren, Samantha Allen Ziller and husband Jerry of Orange, Sheila Mae Allen Murray of Houston, Walter Murray of Orange, Kathy Adrian Roberts and husband Randy of Bixby, OK, Susan Adrian McClung and husband Dennis of Fircrest City, WA and Cleetus Adrian and wife Nichole of Hurst; great grandchildren, Caitlin Ziller, Connor Ziller, Chase Murray, Rose Anna Roberts Ashworth and husband Aaron, Randa Suzane Roberts, Vincent McClung, Samuel McClung, Ruby Rose McClung, Corinth Adrian, Jacob Adrian and Victory Faith Adrian; great, great grandchildren, Michael Stryker Ashworth and Hunter Lee Ashworth; sister-in-law, Wanda Jaynes and her daughter Carmetti and son Gari; and the Family of God that gathered with her each Sunday morning at the Nazarene Church. Serving as pallbearers will be Walter Murray, Chase Murray, Gari Atkerson, Jerry Ziller, Randy Roberts and Joe Gonzalez. The family request that donations be made to the Carthage Nazarene Church, 522 Beverly Drive, Carthage, Texas 75633.
