Mr. James Danford Reid

Funeral services for Mr. James Danford Reid, 78, of Homosassa, Florida will be 3:00 p.m. Monday, July 7, 2025, at the Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Andrew James Herron and his son Mr. James Samuel Reid officiating. Burial will follow in the Adams Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Visitation will be 2-3:00 p.m. Monday prior to the service at Hawthorns. Mr. James Danford Reid was born December 9, 1946, in Lenoir N. Carolina. He passed this life June 30, 2025, in St. Petersburg, Florida. Mr. Reid was one of five children born to the marriage of Virginia Dare Lackey and James Leonard Reid. He was a graduate of Hardee High School in Wauchula, Florida, Polk Junior College with two Associate Degrees, University of South Florida with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration, Louisiana Tech University with a Masters in both Business and Finance. Mr. Reid would hold many senior management positions throughout his career. He served as Chief Executive Officer of the Highland Hills Management Corp., Executive Vice President of the Winward Institute, Inc. & Minex, Inc., Chief Financial Officer, for DPC Brentwood Hospital in Shreveport, Louisiana and Humana Hospital in Pasadena. Business accolades were his in life, butt music was his passion. He began to play at the age of 9, at age 16 he was playing and touring on the road as a talented lead guitarist. His love for music never faded throughout his lifetime. He was a member of the Broadmoor Assembly of God in Shreveport. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers-in-law, Virgil Junior Tinkle, Johnny Barnett, Freddy Barnett; sister-in-law, Carolyn Fults. Mr. Reid is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Lois Ann Barnett Reid of Homosassa, Florida; son, James Samuel Reid and wife Cynthia of San Antonio; daughter, Leslie Ann (Reid) Herron and fiancé Craig Purcell; brother, Hewlette Duane Reid of Homosassa, Florida; sisters, Marsha Maloney and husband Chuck of Dayton, Maryland, Janice Lynn Provost and husband William Neil of Havelock, N. Carolina, Dare Fisher of Pennsylvania; grandchildren, James Austin Reid and wife Marilyn, Aaron Thomas Reid, James Samuel Reid Jr., Camilla Grace Reid, Isabella Rose Reid, Holly Ann Herron and fiancé Andy, and Andrew James Herron and wife Serena; Great grandson, James Archer Reid; nephew, Jason Tinkle and wife Kim and their children, Cassie, Kendal and, Zack; nieces, Wendy Fults Meade and husband Guy, and Hilary Syring and husband Cody Bynog, sisters-in-law, Frances Tinkle, and Colleen Barnett and her son, John Milton Barnett, nephew, Billy Don Barnett, many other relatives and a host of friends. Serving as pallbearers will be, Craig Purcell, Andy Lewis, Bobby Brown, John Goodhart, Aaron Reid and Jason Tinkle.
