Mrs. Janet Marie Shamburger

Funeral services for Mrs. Janet Marie Buckner Shamburger, 81 of Carthage, Texas will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 3, 2016 in the Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Dale Reed officiating. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Visitation will be Thursday, June 2, 2016 from 6 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Shamburger passed away Monday, May 31, 2016 in Carthage. Janet Marie Buckner Shamburger was born June 2, 1934 in Metairie, Louisiana, the only daughter of 5 children born to the marriage of Errol Ezra and Jennie June Rausch Buckner. She was raised and schooled in Metairie, graduating from Metairie High School. She furthered her education at Louisiana Polytechnic University graduating with a B.S. in Home Economics. Janet met and later married the love of her life, James McLain Shamburger on November 22, 1956. Together they raised four boys and celebrated over 57 years of marriage before he preceded her in death in May of 2014. Janet, a named artist in the state of Texas, along with her husband Sham owned and operated Carousel Art and Frame. She was a talented watercolor artist and oil painter and served as a student under many known Texas artists, as well as teaching many students herself. She and Sham were certified picture framers and conservators. Janet was also preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Robert Luther Buckner. She is survived by her sons, James McLain Shamburger, Jr. and wife Jennie of Shenandoah, Michael Wayne Shamburger and fiancé Jan Danlap of Spring, Carlton H. Shamburger and wife Karen of Carthage, and David Randall Shamburger of Spring; brothers, Dr. Edwin E. Buckner and wife Aurora of Longview, Donald Buckner of Fullerton, CA and Lloyd Buckner and wife Betty of Pelican, LA.; brother-in-law, Robert Glen “Skeet” Shamburger and wife Shirley of Tyler; grandchildren, Joshua Shamburger, Jamie Shamburger and fiancé Alex DuBois, Michael Shamburger, Jessica Horst and husband Shawn, Katherine Shamburger, Meredith Shamburger, Ryan Shamburger, Jared Shamburger, Christy Shamburger and Chelsea Shamburger, 2 great grandchildren Wyatt and Scout Horst; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Serving as pallbearers are her grandsons, and Shawn Horst and Barry Buckner. The family request memorials be made to Mission Carthage or Heartsway Hospice.
