Mrs. Jenneita Smith Wallace

Mrs. Jenneita Smith Wallace was born September 30, 1932 in Gary, Texas. She passed this life July 23, 2021 surrounded by her family. She was the third of six children born to Ola Mae and Clayburn Smith. She met Calvin Wallace at Gary High school and they became high school sweethearts. They married August 4, 1951 and would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. They moved to Alvin, Texas in 1951 where they made lifelong friends. They had two children, Patti and Richard. Richard passed away on March 2, 2013. She spent her career as a secretary to the principal at Longfellow Elementary in Alvin, Texas. They lived in Alvin until 2014 when they moved to Katy to be closer to family. Jenneita loved her family and always put others before herself. She adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She lovingly went by Grandma. She loved spending time with family. One of the highlights every summer was the annual trip to the lake. She enjoyed celebrating family birthdays and holidays. She was an excellent cook and our holiday dinners were never complete without her cornbread dressing. When able she never missed an opportunity to attend the sporting events of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jenneita was a faithful woman who loved the Lord. The verse, Love is patient, love is kind, …always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres, love never fails. (1 Corinthians 13:4-8). These verses describe Jenneita, a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who instilled these values into her family. Jenneita is survived by her husband, Calvin; her daughter Patti Smith and husband Billy Smith of Katy; grandson Brett Wallace and wife Mandy of Katy; grandson Sean Brennan and Cassie of Atlanta, Georgia, granddaughter Lori Jones and husband Will of Austin, Texas, sisters Maureen Dean of Carthage; Robbie Kucera of Sour Lake, TX and brother Daniel Smith of Gary; sister-in-law Betty Sue Gilliam of Carthage; great grandchildren, Elle Wallace, Emma Wallace, River Brennan, Dakota Brennan and many nieces and nephews. A service will be held at the Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel in Carthage Texas on July 27 at 2:00 pm. It will immediately be followed by a graveside prayer at Gary Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home.
