Mr. Joe Richard Cassity

Funeral services for Mr. Joe Cassity, 67 of Carthage, Texas will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 9, 2014 at the Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Rick Linebarger and Dr. Ray Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in the Youngblood Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Visitation will be Saturday evening from 6–8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Cassity passed away February 6, 2014 in Clayton. Mr. Joe Richard Cassity was born June 22, 1946 in Henderson, Texas to Oscar Olar and Grace Virginia Sharp Cassity. Joe attended school in Henderson and Carthage, graduating from Carthage High School with the class of 1964. He married the love of his life, Judy Elizabeth Sledge on July 1, 1966, after meeting her on a blind date and they celebrated over 47 years together. Joe was a licensed journeyman plumber, and worked varying capacities for 47 years in the mechanical contracting business with Drew Woods, Inc. Pyramid Mechanical Services and H&J Mechanical. He finished his career with UT Health Center in Tyler in 2012. Joe and Judy raised two sons, Gary and Kyle. Joe loved assisting and supporting his sons with 4H livestock shows, football, track events and hunting. Joe loved his grandchildren and took pride in supporting them during their many activities and was known as their “Papa Joe”. Joe was a faithful member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Carthage, enjoyed his early morning coffee with his friends, and enjoyed working and gardening. He took pride in helping the elderly at Briarcliff Nursing Home every Sunday morning for their breakfast and church service while his mother, Grace was a resident. Joe is preceded in death by his parents; son, Kyle Cassity and daughter-in-law, Dawn Cassity. Joe is survived by his loving wife, Judy Cassity of Carthage; son, Gary Cassity and wife Gayle of Kilgore; grandchildren, Lindsey Cassity of Kilgore and Klayton Cassity of Carthage; brother, John Cassity and wife Danny Sue of Henderson; sisters, Virginia Bassett and husband Mac of Henderson, Judy Watkins of New Salem, Mary Mauritzen of Clayton, Dian Brooks and husband Carrol of Waxahachie; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and a host of friends. Serving as pallbearers will be Gary Wellborn, Ronny Bagby, Keith Hennigan, Tater Davis, Tom Neffenniegger and Brian Murff. Honorary pallbearers will be Albert Boren, Richard Ballenger, Acie Hennigan, Dan Jones, Earl Robinson and the Adult Sunday School Class at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. Memorial donations may be made in Joe’s name to the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o G.
