Julia Hoops

Funeral services for Mrs. Julia Hoops, 74 of Panola County, Texas will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 26, 2013 at the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church with Rev. Terry Cashion officiating. Burial will follow in the Panola - Mt. Zion Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Family visitation will be Sunday afternoon from 3–5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Hoops passed away August 19, 2013 in Carthage, Texas. Mrs. Julia Estelle Hoops was born September 23, 1938 in Urbana, Ohio to the marriage of Charles and Elsie Ridder McClurg. Julia graduated from Springfield High School in Springfield, Ohio and later received her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Toledo. She later attended Bowling Green State University to work on her Master’s Degree. Julia met and later married Clyde Hoops on June 22, 1957 and celebrated 56 years together. Mrs. Hoops loved collecting antique dolls, was a member of the Shreveport/Bossier Chorale Ensemble, the Noel Methodist Church, active in the food pantry and UMW Joy Circle and Choir, and the Playhouse Players at First United Methodist Church in Shreveport. Julia was also a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and was a homemaker. She is preceded in death by her parents; twin infant sons; sisters, Della Johnston and Barbara Maloney and her close friend, Ruth Pasternak. Mrs. Hoops is survived by her loving husband Clyde Hoops of Panola County; children, Rebecca Acquaviva and husband Pasquale of Marshall, Denise Hybarger and husband Chuck of Nebraska, Diana Herman of Ohio, Clyde Douglas “Kip” Hoops and wife Denise of California; sister, Rose Wilmore of Tennessee; grandchildren, Rebecca Balensia and husband John, Jennifer Hybarger, Andy Hybarger; and Alec Hoops, three great grandchildren, close friend, Carole Geunther, numerous other relatives and a host of friends. Serving as pallbearers will be Joe Elliott, John Jernigan, John Balensia, Buddy Gleason, Bradd Olsen and Chris Martin. Honorary pallbearers will be David Elliott and Bill Offer. If desired, donations may be made in Mrs. Hoops’ name to the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 274, Panola, Texas 75685.
