Madie Lou Jimerson

Funeral services for Mrs. Madie Lou Jimerson, 98, of Houston, TX, formerly of Madisonville, TX and Gary, TX will be 2:00p.m., Friday, March 15, 2013 at the Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Pete Williams officiating. Burial will follow at the Gary Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Family visitation will be 5 p.m. for family and 6-8:00 p.m. on Thursday night for friends at the funeral home. Madie Lou died on March 12, 2013 in Houston, Texas. Madie Lou Graves Jimerson was born August 12, 1914, in the Buncombe community near Gary, Texas. She was the youngest daughter born to the marriage of Charles Washington Graves and Nettie Havena Lathem. She grew up in the Buncombe community and met and married Martin Kersh on April 22, 1933 in Panola County. Madie Lou and Martin had one child, Jerry Graves Kersh. Upon Martin’s death, Madie raised Jerry and worked at the Carthage State Bank. The Graves family loved music and sang and participated in local gospel meetings. At one of these gospel singings, Madie Lou met Robert Lewis Jimerson. Madie Lou and Robert married on March 16, 1954 and had one child, Jennifer Jimerson. Madie Lou spent over forty years as an active member of the First Baptist Church of Madisonville Texas. She utilized her contralto voice to sing in the choir and continued to sing in duets and quartets with Robert as well as an active past President of the WMU and teach a Sunday School Class. Being creative and loving crafts, Madie Lou became known as an excellent seamstress and spent the last of her working career sewing and altering clothes. Madie is preceded in death by her first husband, Martin Kersh, her son, Jerry Graves Kersh, her second husband Robert Lewis Jimerson, her 4 brothers, Bernard, Ermon, Clyde, and Charles Lathem Graves and her 6 sisters, Ethel Graves, Nettie Verna Graves Smith, Vesta Clara Graves Brannon, Ollie Belle Graves Thomas, Annie Whit Graves Jones, and Nannie Joyce Graves Honea. Mrs. Madie Lou Jimerson is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Jimerson of Houston, granddaughter, Ronda Kersh Harris and husband Mark of College Station. A great granddaughter, Danielle Leigh Harris Meskunas and husband Charles of Katy. A great grandson, Casey Kersh Harris of College Station, and the 5th generation Miss Lorelei Faith Meskunas of Katy. A sister, Maurine Graves Shepherd of Nacogdoches and a sister Nelwyn Graves Brannon and husband James of Nacogdoches, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
