Matt McClure

Funeral services for Mr. Matt McClure, 42 of Dallas will be at 10:00 am, Friday, June 21, 2013 in the Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Allen Tilley and Rev. Dock Lazerine officiating. Burial will follow in Boynton Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Family visitation will be Thursday, June 20, 2013 from 6 – 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Mr. McClure died Sunday, June 16, 2013 in Dallas. Mr. Matthew Steven McClure was born December 10, 1970 in Carthage, Texas to Jerry Steve and Marie Gail Griffith McClure. He attended Carthage schools graduating with the class of 1989. Matt then furthered his education at Panola Jr. College and Stephen F. Austin University receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Business and a Master’s degree in Kinesiology. Matt had additionally received a degree in Forestry, and a license in massage therapy. He served as a Lieutenant with the Texas Dept. of Corrections in Palestine and had since transferred to the Hutchins Unit in the Dallas area. Matt had a passion for fitness, running and working out at the gym, and was honored to carry the Olympic Torch in 2002. He was of the Baptist faith and always enjoyed spending quite time talking with God and his family. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ishmael and Velma Johnston McClure. Matt is survived by his parents, Jerry and Gail McClure of Carthage; sister, Madonna Jo “Joe” Ashmore and husband Bob of Marshall/ Longbranch; grandparents, Jimmie Cariker and Sentis Marie Griffith of Longbranch; nephew which was his son by heart, Holden Saxton of Longbranch; other nieces and nephews, Jusdson and Spencer Ashmore, Jim Saxton, Keena Saxton and Michele Saxton; aunts and uncles, Bettye Lollar and husband Mark of Mt. Enterprise, Glenda Heirs and husband Terry of Lufkin, Vicki Garcia and husband Dusty of Tyler and Connie Denton and husband Dalton of Carthage; his beloved dogs, Dex and Mick, numerous other relatives and a host of friends. Serving as pallbearers will be Holden Saxton, Wayne Bailey, Duane Kuhn, Danny Hill, Lee Coleman. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Ashmore, Kelly Simpson, Jim Saxton, Patrick Porter and Brandon Denton. The family request memorials be made to Glynnis Ritter, 912 Gholston, Carthage, Texas 75633 to help support her efforts in taking care of homeless animals.
