Mrs. Minnie Wise

Funeral services for Mrs. Minnie Ruth Wise, 74 of the Deadwood Community of Panola County, Texas will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 20, 2014 at the Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mervin Scott officiating. Burial will follow in the Deadwood Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Wednesday afternoon from 4–6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Wise passed away March 17, 2014 at her home in Deadwood. Mrs. Minnie Ruth LaGrone Wise was born March 29, 1939 in Panola County, Texas to the marriage of Ira C. and Ludie Mae Wilkerson LaGrone. Minnie was raised and schooled in Panola County graduating from Carthage High School with the class of 1957 and later attended Panola College and Stephen F. Austin State University. Minnie met and later married David Wise on September 12, 1959 and together they celebrated 54 years. Mrs. Wise worked as a substitute teachers for Carthage ISD for 30 years and was a lifelong member of the Deadwood United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. Minnie loved the outdoors, fishing, quilting, cross stitching and going to the beach. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother-in-law, Kenneth Whiddon and sister-in-law, Muriel LaGrone. Mrs. Wise is survived by her loving husband, David Wise of Deadwood; daughter, Laurie Stacy and husband David of Longview; son, Nathan Wise and wife Tracie of Beckville; grandsons, Kevin Stacy, Adam Stacy, Braden Wise; sister, Retha Whiddon of Deadwood; brother, Ira LaGrone and wife Vonda of Carthage; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Serving as pallbearers will be Kevin Stacy, Adam Stacy, Braden Wise, Winston Whiddon, Calvin Whiddon and Benny Gasper. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Coxen and Bob Rawson. The family wishes to extend a special “Thank You” to Mrs. Wise’s special caregiver Jessica Martin, the nurses and aides of Texas Home Health and to the nurses and staff of HeartsWay Hospice. If desired, the family request’s that donations be made in Mrs. Wise’s name to the Deadwood Cemetery Association, 1452 FM 31 S, Carthage, Texas 75633 or to the Carthage Educational Fund, c/o Cynthia Harkrider, #1 Bulldog Drive, Carthage, Texas 75633.
