Mrs. Oneida Kelly DuBose

Funeral service for Oneida Dubose (92) of Gary, TX will be held Thursday, May 9 at Eastside Baptist Church in Gary, TX with Rev. Dale Walker and Bro. Kevin Lake officiating, Jimmy Jones leading music. Visitation for family and friends begins at 9:00am followed by the service at 10:30. Interment to follow at Zion Hill Cemetery located 6 miles south of Jasper on Hwy 96 at 2:30pm. Oneida was born on April 4, 1932, in Bessmay, TX (now called Buna) and went peacefully to her Heavenly home May 5, 2024. She follows her husband, Reverend Dr. P. A. (Boots) DuBose who passed away September 6, 2019. Together they shared 70 wonderful years of marriage. Oneida was a long-time resident of Gary, TX and an active member of Eastside Baptist Church in Gary for over 54 years faithfully supporting the ministry of Dr. DuBose in his work as pastor. She served as choir director for the Sonshine and Praise Singers, taught Sunday School and BTC, was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary, sang in the choir, played the piano for church services, was a member of the gospel quartet Gospel Echoes and led the Easter Cantata for many years plus other roles when called upon. Mrs. DuBose also served as business manager and Secretary to the Superintendent for the Gary School for 27 years touching the lives of many throughout the community. Oneida is survived by her son Daniel DuBose and wife Beki of Ocean Springs, MS, daughter Brenda J. DuBose Hampy of Tyler, TX, grandson Arthur Head and wife Donna of Brookeland, TX, grandson Beau DuBose and wife Danielle of Austin, TX, granddaughter Dalyn DuBose Lohfink of D’Iberville, MS. She was blessed to have the following great grandchildren with two great-great grandchildren due to arrive later this year. Great granddaughter Kaley Head Schlemeyer and husband Chase of Reedsport, OR (baby Hudson Chase due in September), Samantha DuBose of Mobile, AL, great grandson Colton Head and wife Sydni of Orange, TX (baby Stetson Blake due in October), great grandson Isaac Lohfink, and a host of nieces and nephews that affectionately called her Aunt Oneida. The last years of her life she called Legacies Nursing in Hemphill, TX home. The level of care and love provided by this wonderful facility is deeply appreciated. Although there were many great caregivers at the facility, three particularly were special to “granny” as all lovingly called her. Thank you Kristy Kay Dyess, Marie Ogden, and Amber Mitchell for your care, compassion, and love shown to her during her stay at Legacies.
