Patita Bertrand

Patita Bertrand rushed into the world arriving before the doctor, at Ramey Air Force Base Hospital, Puerto Rico on November 20th, 1959. She left us far too soon on December 27, 2014 ending her hard fought battle with ALS at home in Jonestown, Texas. She is survived by her son, Chris McWaters and his three children Morgan, Myles, and Emma and her daughter Megan Gann and husband Kyle and their son Emmett. She also leaves her mother Margaret Wilkerson, step-father Harold Wilkerson and devoted companion Charles Parker and six brothers and sisters – Debra Richardson and husband Steve, Jerry Bertrand and wife Cheryl, John Bertrand and wife Julie, Daryl Bertrand and special friend Renee, Dani Edwards and husband Mike, and Amelia Ross and husband Randy. Additionally there are a host of nieces and nephews and a great number of exceptional friends. She was preceded in death by her father Sherman Bertrand. Today we celebrate her 55 years, 1 month and 7 days of life. Patita grew up in Mooringsport, LA before moving to Texas where most of her adult life was spent in the Austin area. She worked as an Insurance Rep. Patita was passionate and vocal about what she believed in and what she did not. She was going to do it her way; you could join her or get out of the way. She was a treasure and she was loved deeply by friends and family. Patita was passionate about fresh and healthy food; nothing pleased her more than having a house full of people and serving up a great meal that she had orchestrated. In the same way she loved little ones, the more the merrier. She loved them and they all knew it. That brought her a special kind of joy. Goodwill shopping was almost a hobby for her. Only another goodwill shopper can understand the thrill of finding a "real treasure". Patita was a master. And if she had a trademark it would have to be her red nail polish. The girls at the nail salon new her well and knew it would always be a nice shade of OPI Red. Her family would like to express sincere thanks to those that were so kind and compassionate to her through her two years of illness. To Kara and Jessica who were her first caregivers. And to Marshall Harper who was an incredible help. And to Charley who was by her side through it all. You all did what no one else could; your love for Tita was so evident. The next time you hear a child laugh – give him a hug as Tita would. When you pass a Goodwill Store give it a nod or if you are inclined stop in and shop, she sure would. Or when you pass the nail polish isle smile! In whatever way you choose remember her with joy, Nothing would please her more.
