Rev. H.P. Long

Funeral services for Rev. H. P. Long, 83 of Carthage, Texas will be 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at the Carthage United Pentecostal Church with Rev. Ricky Jeane, Rev. Jeff Story and Rev. Dennis Landtroop officiating. Burial will follow in the Restland Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Family visitation will be Monday evening from 6–8:00 p.m. at the Carthage United Pentecostal Church. Rev. Long passed away July 7, 2012 at his home in Carthage. Rev. Huey Pierce Long was born June 4, 1929 in Mira, Louisiana. He was one of nine children born to the marriage of Ernest Clifton and Rose Adcock Long. Rev. Long attended McLeod schools and graduated from McLeod High School with the class of 1946. He met the love of his life, Bertie Mason while teaching music for the Stamps Music Schools and they were married on December 22, 1946 and celebrated 65 years together. Rev. Long also worked in the oilfield industry and many other trades throughout his life. However, his passion was ministering the word of God. Rev. Long pastored churches in Waskom, Glen Rose, and Carthage and held revivals in many other churches. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings; E.C. Long, Jr., Dorothy Long and Nolan Long. Rev. Long is survived by his loving wife, Bertie Long of Carthage; children, Joycelyn Shaw and husband Joe of Pleasanton, Carolyn Sue Bishop and husband James of Carthage, Marilyn Phillips and husband Wayne of Glen Rose, Stephen Long of Carthage; brothers, William Long and wife Joan of Augusta, Georgia, Lindsey Long and wife Nancy of Marshall; sisters, Ruby Crawford of McLeod, Bessie Solomon of Axtell, Anna Edwards of Marshall; nine grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; three great, great grandchildren; numerous other relatives and a host of friends. Serving as pallbearers will be Joe Shaw, II, Rodney Shaw, Paul Bishop, Steven Long, Jeff Laramore, Jonathan Macha, Jack Stick and Alan Jenkins. The family would like stay extend a special “Thank You” to Rev. Long’s special caregivers, Kim Wornat, Jamie Davis, Kirby Long and the nurses and staff of Heart’s Way Hospice.
