Mrs. Roselyn Harrigan Bagwell

Funeral services for Mrs. Roselyn Harrigan Bagwell, 93, of Carthage, Texas will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at the Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Charles Dodson, Rev. Steve Jackson and Mr. John Boland officiating. Burial will follow in the Restland Cemtery in Tenaha, Texas. Family visitation will be 6-8:00 p.m. Monday night at the funeral home. Mrs. Bagwell died May 30, 2015 at her home in Carthage, Texas, surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Roselyn Lenora Parker Harrigan Bagwell was born on October 13, 1922, in Tenaha, Texas to Rogers and Wylma Poplin Parker. She graduated from Tenaha High School in 1940. Roselyn also attended Peabody and Centenary College. Roselyn married Arthur William (June) Harrigan Jr. and moved to Houston in 1941. June preceded her in death on November 12, 1975. Roselyn was first and foremost a mother and helpmate-spending countless hours working beside June in the family business in Houston, and at their farm in the Woods Community. Roselyn was a Sunday School teacher, WMU President, Pineywoods sponsor for the youth, and an advocator for the elderly. She Volunteered at Panola Nursing Home before being asked to become the first Social Activities director in 1974. After the death of June, Roselyn decided to further her education at Centenary College in Shreveport, LA. During this time, she renewed her friendship with George Bagwell, a Tenaha Classmate. They married on January 15, 1981 and enjoyed many years together, until he preceded her in death in 2002. Roselyn was a faithful member of Woods New Hope and Central Baptist Church dedicating her life to Christ at the age of 9. Part of her Christian witness was to recite the Twenty-Third Psalm at the graveside of her beloved relatives and friends. Mrs. Bagwell was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. She loved traveling, collecting rocks from all over the United States, walking in the woods, working in her yard, reading the Bible and writing. She was always proud when she found an “orphan house” she could restore for a family to have a new home. She loved people having never met a stranger-and lived with the verse-“This is the day the Lord has made: We will rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm…118:24 Mrs. Bagwell is survived by two sons, Arthur William (Bill) Harriagan III of Carthage, Tim and wife Carolyn Harrigan of Ft. Worth and two daughters, Brenda and husband Jim Milstead and Rose Helen and husband Randy Reid both of Carthage. Grandchildren: Emilee Reid of Tyler, TX, Julie and Chris Tiller of Bullard, TX, Rhett and Beth Reid of Henderson, TX, Katie and Jonathan Manchaca of Ft. Worth, TX, Timothy and Lauren Harrigan of Ft. Worth, TX, Chad and Sandyah Milstead of Schamburg, IL, Heather and Scott Peterson of Katy, TX, Heidi and Jonathan Bransom of McKinney, TX, Holly and Ashley Justice of Katy, TX. She had many great-grandchildren she adored. Mrs. Bagwell was preceded in death by her parents; brother Franklin Parker, brother-in-law Don Rader, sister-in-law Gladys Horton, and beloved grandchildren Leslie Suzanne and Christie Allen. Pallbearers: Rhett Reid, Timothy Harrigan, Chris Tiller, Jonathan Manchaca, Steve Boone and Larry Powell Honorary Pallbearers: Robert (Bob) Browning, Lance Horton, George Horton, Frank Horton and Dennis Jordan.
