Mrs. Sue Grafton

Funeral services for Mrs. Sue Grafton, 79 of Carthage, Texas will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 1, 2014 at Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Fondren, Rev. Jared Brown and Rev. Dale Walker officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Bethel Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Family visitation will be Sunday evening from 6–8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Grafton passed away August 29, 2014 in Carthage. Mrs. Amanda Sue Nutt Grafton was born October 2, 1934 in the Mt. Bethel Community of Panola County, Texas. She was the third of five children born to the marriage of Travis Buford and Jessie Clotille Ross Nutt, Sr. Sue graduated from Gary High School with the class of 1953 and later attended Panola Jr. College. She met and later married the love of her life, James Ray Grafton on May 4, 1960 and together they celebrated 54 years. Mrs. Grafton worked in the Panola County Clerk’s office as Chief Deputy Clerk for 20 years and served as County Clerk for 10 years. Sue was a longtime member of the Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church where she served as Church Treasurer for over 30 years. Mrs. Grafton loved to cook and spend time with her family and church family. She is preceded in death by her parents, son, Michael Grafton and brother, Charles Lynn Nutt. Mrs. Grafton is survived by her loving husband, James Ray Grafton of Carthage; daughters, Susan Grafton Ross of Carthage, Sharon Grafton Kyle and husband Jeff of Gary; brother, Travis Nutt, Jr. and wife Roni of Gary, sisters, Wanda Mae Starkey of Gary, Frances Elizabeth “Beth” Tate and husband David of Tenaha, sister-in-law, Bobbie Jean Nutt of Center, grandchildren, Courtney Ross and fiance' Skylar Daughtry of Plano, Khristina Yates and husband Johnny of Carthage, Kaley Alexander and husband Kyle of Carthage, Lindsey Bolton and husband David of Gary, Brady Kyle of Gary, Dillon Grafton of Carthage, Amy Grafton of Logansport, LA and Dalton Grafton of Logansport, LA, great granddaughter, Kora Brooke Alexander of Carthage, aunt, Charlcie Phillips and uncle, Alton Nutt and wife Odie, numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends, special caregivers, Clovers Matlock and Brooklyn Stewart. The family suggests memorials to the Mt. Bethel Cemetery Association or the Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church.
