Mrs. Tona Lawhorn

Funeral services for Mrs. Tona Jeanette James Lawhorn, 73, of Buncombe, Texas, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Matt Comer and Bro. Kyle Keeling officiating. Interment will follow in Six Mile Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday morning prior to the service. Mrs. Lawhorn was born on August 28, 1952, in Carthage, Texas, to Jesse Jewel James and Isabel Cauthen James. She passed peacefully from this life on June 25, 2026, in Longview, Texas. The youngest of four children, Tona was raised in Carthage and graduated with the Carthage High School Bulldog Class of 1970. On August 22, 1969, she married the love of her life, James Clifford "Cliff" Lawhorn. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and love, sharing 44 wonderful years of marriage. Tona enjoyed a career as a pharmacy technician, serving her community through her work at Ray's Pharmacy and Walmart. She worked at Davidsons Floral and Violet Shop. Tona was also a devoted homemaker who found her greatest joy in caring for her family. A faithful member of Still Waters Cowboy Church, Tona served on the Chuck Wagon Team and treasured the fellowship she shared with her church family. She also enjoyed spending time with the Red Hat Society and God's Gals, creating lasting friendships wherever she went. Her faithful fur baby, Lucy, brought her much comfort and happiness. Tona was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Cliff Lawhorn; her parents, Jesse Jewel and Isabel James; her daughter, Christy Lawhorn; her brothers, Jewel Dale James and Curt James; and her sister, Bobbie Cockrell. Left to cherish her memory are her devoted sons, Chad Lawhorn and wife Sarah of Diana, Texas, and Clint Lawhorn and wife Chelsey of Carthage, Texas; her beloved grandchildren, Cullen Chambers, Talon Chambers, Rodie Lawhorn, and Colt Lawhorn; sister-in-law, Phyllis Griffith and husband Darrell of Carthage; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and a host of dear friends who will forever remember her kindness, generous spirit, and unwavering love. Serving as pallbearers will be James Collins, Cole Griffith, Aaron Ross, Johnny Cockrell, Matt Cockrell, Josh Rosenthal, Wes James and Bernie Hudspeth. Tona will be remembered for her servant's heart, steadfast faith, and the love she so freely gave to everyone blessed to know her. Her legacy lives on in the family she cherished, the friendships she nurtured, and the countless lives she touched with grace, compassion, and joy.
