Mrs. Vallie Mae Allen

Vallie Mae Allen of Carthage, TX went to be with her Lord and Savior at the age of 96 on November 27th, 2022. She passed away peacefully in her sleep and her final days had been spent surrounded by family and friends that she had touched throughout her amazing lifetime. Vallie was born on July 14th, 1926, in Carthage, Texas to Robert P. Hill and Essie B. Hill. Vallie grew up in Carthage with her four sisters and attended Carthage High School. As a young girl, her family went to Tacoma, Washington where they worked in the Navy Shipyards. She was named Queen of the Tacoma Bathing Beauty contest held during the Navy Yard’s annual picnic. Vallie moved back home to Carthage where she met and married the love of her life, Ralph Allen Jr., on November 8th, 1946. Shortly after they got married, they moved to Pasadena, TX where they began to build their family and raise their three beautiful children, Bobby, Larry, and Suzanne. During their time in Pasadena, Vallie worked at Champion Paper and started a business hanging wallpaper for many years before moving back to Carthage upon her husband’s retirement. Ralph and Vallie were married for 58 years until his passing in 2005. Vallie was an avid bowler who won many bowling trophies, she loved playing dominoes, volunteered for the Shriners Hospital for Children making hats and quilts for babies, was an avid Astro’s fan and a member of the potpourri club. Vallie’s passion was spending time with her family and friends. Vallie was a thoughtful, generous, and caring person to all who knew her. She was loved and cherished by many throughout her life. As a loving wife, devoted mother, sister, friend, aunt and Mamaw, Vallie will be missed by so many. Vallie is preceded in death by her parents (Phillip and Essie B. Hill), her sisters (Dorothy Sue Reed, Billie Jean Lee, Elizabeth Ann Rogers, and Mary Sue Briggs), her husband (Ralph Allen) and her son (Larry Allen). She is survived by her son, Robert “Bobby” Allen and wife Janis Allen of Friendswood, TX, and her daughter, Suzanne Britt of League City, TX; her grandchildren, Brandi Sellers and husband Chris Sellers, Tara Stanislaus and husband Jim Stanislaus, Nolan Allen and wife Lauren Allen, Kylee Brett and husband Kade Brett, Chase Allen and wife Abbie Allen and Jamie Staggs; her great-grandchildren, Lauren Collins and husband Christopher Collins, Ryan Sellers, Mason Stanislaus, Matthew Stanislaus, Allie Allen, Paige Allen, Lily Allen, Rylee Brett, Steelie Brett, Jozee Brett and Waycee Brett. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and so many others who loved her dearly. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 2nd, 2022, at 2:00 PM at the Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel in Carthage, TX with Pastor Rusty Livingston officiating. The visitation will be held one hour prior to the service and a private burial will follow at Shady Grove Cemetery immediately after. There will be a reception at the community center after the burial and the family invites you to come and spend time celebrating Vallie’s life with them. Per her request, it will be a closed casket visitation and service.
