Mr. Wallace Peterson

Funeral services for Mr. Wallace Wayne Peterson, 89, of Lake Murvaul, Texas, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 31, 2026, at Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Allen Tilley, Rev. James McRight, and Rev. Jeff Armstrong officiating. Burial will follow privately in Corinth Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday evening at Hawthorn Funeral Home. Wallace Wayne Peterson was born June 24, 1936, in Ranger and passed peacefully from this life on May 26, 2026, at his home on Lake Murvaul. Known to many as “Wally,” he was the second of four children born to Nina Belle Rylee Peterson and Wayne Adren “Pete” Peterson. He was raised in Carthage and graduated with the Carthage Bulldog Class of 1954. Following graduation, he attended Panola Junior College before proudly serving his country in the United States Marine Corps. Wally dedicated his career to the electrical trade as a master electrician and worked many years for Dallas Independent School District until his retirement. He married the love of his life, Karen Anita Downing, January 5, 1985, and together they shared 41 wonderful years of marriage. An avid and well-known golfer, Wally especially enjoyed his retirement years spent on the golf course. He was a member of Carthage Country Club and faithfully attended First Baptist Church, where he was active in the Men’s Sunday School Class. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Joni Peterson; son, Brian Lee Peterson; sister, Eva Pearl Vandevort; and brother, Jerry Peterson. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Karen Peterson of Lake Murvaul; son, Kory Peterson of Lake Murvaul; daughter, Kristen Denizman of Chicago; son, Brett Peterson and wife Cathy of Winnsboro; brother, Freddy Peterson and wife Janice of Gilmer; sister-in-law, Judy Peterson of Beckville; grandchildren Aaden, Everett, Amber, Katie, Zachary, Matthew, Brittny, Courtny, Tiffny, and Jared; numerous great-grandchildren; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives, countless friends, and his family at The Village Salon. Memorial donations may be made in his honor to Mission Carthage.
