Mrs. Althea Goodwin Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Funeral services for Mrs. Althea Goodwin, 81, of Shreveport, Louisiana will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 8, 2022 at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Shreveport with Rev. Chuck Huffman officiating. Burial will follow in Red Lick Cemetery in Red Lick, Texas under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 9 – 10:00 a.m. prior to the service Friday morning. Althea Lee Curley Goodwin was born September 24, 1940 in Maud, TX to the marriage of Hart Green and Leola Frances Brown Curley and passed away Saturday, July 2, 2022 in Carthage, TX She was raised in Maud and graduated from Maud High School in 1959. Althea met and later married Benjamin Laird Goodwin on December 20, 1958. Together they celebrated over 41 years of marriage. Mrs. Goodwin worked as the administrative assistance to the editor for the Shreveport Journal until it closed, and then for the editor of the Shreveport Times until her retirement. She was a long time member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. Althea loved her children and grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them attending whatever activity they were involved with. She is preceded in death by her parents, step-father, Rocky Mammarella; husband, daughter, Kimberly Frances McFarland and great grandson, Benjamin Thomas Goodwin. Survivors include her children, Karen Shamburger and husband Carlton of Carthage, TX, Chris Goodwin and wife Carolyn of Benton and Clay Goodwin of Bossier City; sister, Sara Curley of Texarkana, TX; son-in-law, Mike MacFarland of Springdale, AR; grandchildren, Vince Biondo and Michelle Hufana, Kathryn Bell and husband Chad, Katherine Shamburger, Meredith Shamburger, Jake Goodwin and wife Morgan, Ryan Shamburger and wife Hayley, Matthew Goodwin and fiancée Sarah St. Ores, John David Goodwin and wife Ashleigh, Will Goodwin and fiancée Sarah Beth Moore, Mary Catherine Goodwin and Grace Goodwin; great grandchildren, Theo Bell, Bryce Bell, Nora Goodwin, Tripp Goodwin and was anxiously awaiting Baby boy Goodwin coming in January, numerous other relatives and a host of friends. The family would like to thank the staff at Marion Place in Carthage and Heartsway Hospice for the excellent care given. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons.
