    Mr. Andrew Lee Maxey

    August 13, 1933 - February 21, 2022

    Funeral services for Mr. Andrew Maxey, 88, of Carthage, Texas will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 27, 2022 at Central Baptist Church with Dr. Charles Dodson and Rev. Steve Jackson officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Odd Fellows Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 p.m. Saturday night at Hawthorn Funeral Home. Mr. Andrew Lee Maxey was born on August 13, 1933 in Yellow Pine, Louisiana. He passed this life on February 21, 2022 in Carthage, Texas. Andrew was the older of two sons born to the marriage of Clyde Willard and Mary Magnolia Enloe Maxey. He was raised in DeBerry, Texas graduating from Elysian Fields High School. He attended Panola College and obtained his Bachelor’s and Master’s in Education through Stephen F. Austin State Teachers College. Mr. Maxey would serve his country through the U.S. Marine Corps. From 1954 -1961, and proudly played on the Marine Corps Headquarters baseball team in Washington D.C. He married his love, Tomye Jean Jones, on December 7, 1956 and they celebrated 64 years of marriage and three sons before she preceded him in death in 2021. Coach Maxey started his career in Avenger I.S.D.He would come to teach, educate and coach all sports for many school districts, He served Cartage I.S.D. from, 1975-1991, and served as the Principal for Tatum High School. He was a beloved figure to his students and athletes. Mr. Maxey served his Lord as a longtime member of Central Baptist Church as a deacon and Sunday School teacher over 22 years. He loved singing in the choir and serving as a mission trip leader. He loved his family, sharing with his sons the great outdoors, fishing, camping, and scouting where he brought many to the Eagle Scout rank. He is also preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ronald Ray Maxey; and a son, Tommy Lee Maxey. Mr. Maxey is survived by his devoted sons, Ricky Wayne Maxey and wife Kathy of Marshall, Steve Maxey and wife Sandra of Carthage; grandchildren, Jonathan Anderson, Alyssa Burge, Heath Martin, Jordan and Morgan Anderson, Cady and Jeremy Ritter, Ethan Maxey, Megan Broussard, Nicholas Broussard, Erica Maxey, Jessie Maxey; great grandchildren, Leah Rose Maxey, Tyler and Austin Ritter, Kelcey Burge, Charlie Perez, Ezra Anderson, Brilea Hart, numerous other great grandchildren and a host of friends. Serving as pallbearers will be, David Allen Myers, Schanen Marx, Jonathan Anderson, Ethan Maxey, Jessie Maxey, Kevin Jones, Jeff Jones, Heath Martin, and Honorary pallbearer, Mitch Fortner.
