    Mrs. Betty Thames

    September 17, 1931 - March 22, 2020

    A viewing for Mrs. Betty Thames, 88, of Carthage, Texas will be 2-6:00 p.m. Wednesday March 25, 2020 at the Hawthorn Funeral Home. A private family burial will be at Restland Memorial Park Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held for the public at a later scheduled date. Mrs. Betty Jean Bradley Thames was born September 17, 1931 in Memphis, Hall County, Texas. She passed this life March 22, 2020 in Carthage, Texas. Betty was the oldest of five sisters born to the marriage of John Harley and Mary Clarice English Bradley. She graduated high school in Silverton, Texas, and graduated Business College and attended Panola College. Betty married Jesse Thomas J.T. “Jake” Thames in Plainview, Texas December 22, 1951 and they celebrated 55 years of marriage and raised three children. Betty worked in bookkeeping for Patterson Insurance and Hawthorn Life Insurance until her retirement. She and Jake were active members of Central Baptist Church where she worked in the library. Betty was a charter member of the Ladies Hawthorn Funeral Home Auxiliary. She loved reading, hymns and her church activities. She is also preceded in death by her parents, and sisters, Estelle Gilbreath, Pauline Angel, and Mary Joyce Saunders. Mrs. Thames is survived by her children; Troy Thames and wife Terri of Colorado Springs, CO, Marilyn Kay Reinemer and husband Phil of Carthage, Randal Thames and wife Kathy of Beckville; sister, Faye Whitehead of Carthage; grandchildren, Christopher and Whitney Thames, Michael and Tina Thames, Amanda Thames and fiancé Daniel Leonardo, Holly and David Berg, Russell and Karli Reinemer, Kasey and Brianna Reinemer, Kelly and Eric Dewey, Blake and Shayne Thames, and Jason Thames; thirteen great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
