    Judge Charles Clay "Brick" Dickerson

    July 7, 1942 - September 29, 2018

    Graveside funeral services for Judge Charles Clay “Brick” Dickerson, 76, of Carthage, Texas will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at Deadwood Cemetery with Rev. Rick Linebarger officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Tuesday, October 2, 2018 from 6 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Judge Charles Clay “Brick” Dickerson was born July 7, 1942 in Deadwood, Texas to Lawrence Clifton and Mellie Briggs Dickerson, Sr. and passed away September 29, 2018 in Tyler, Texas. He attended Carthage High School, graduating with the class of 1960, and continued his education at Panola College, University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Stephen F. Austin State University and the Southwestern College of Law. Brick married Varonica Sue Payne on July 8, 1968 and together they celebrated 48 years of marriage until her death on September 5, 2016. Judge Dickerson served his country through the National Guard and worked as a lawyer for many years. He was elected Judge of the 123rd District for Panola and Shelby counties later in his career. Judge Dickerson enjoyed spending time outdoors, hunting and fishing, and was a member of the NRA as well as a Mason. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister, June Yarbrough; brothers, Lawrence Clifton Dickerson, II and Arthur Weldon “Tuffy” Dickerson. Judge Dickerson is survived by his daughter, Amanda Dickerson Martin and husband Ryan of Carthage; brother, Larry Nathaniel Dickerson and wife Allie Fidelia of Lafayette; sister, Wanda Nell Belcher of Houston; grandchildren, Hannah “Kat” Dickerson Buckner of Carthage, Sofia Elise Wallace of Carthage, Helena Lenore Wallace of Carthage and Kiaran M. Wallace of Carthage; great grandchild, Camden Dean Williams; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
