    Mr. Claude N. Blackwell Sr.

    July 28, 1931 - August 2, 2018

    Funeral services for Mr. Claude N. Blackwell, Sr., 87, of Carthage, Texas will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, August 4, 2018 at the Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with Claude Blackwell, Jr., and Matthew Blackwell officiating. Burial will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 5, 2018 at the Stevens Cemetery in Cuero, Texas. Visitation will be 1-3:00 p.m. prior to the Saturday service at Hawthorn Funeral Home. Mr. Claude North Blackwell, Sr. was born July 28, 1931 in Stratford, Texas to the marriage of Raleigh White and Velma Celeste Norvell Blackwell Sr. He passed August 2, 2018 in Longview, Texas. Claude was raised and schooled in Cuero and served his county through the U. S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. Claude married Ann Meek February 22, 1953 and together they raised four children in a loving Christian home and celebrated 65 years of marriage. Claude worked the pipeline oil and gas industry through Texas Eastern Transmission Corp. and owned and operated the Panola Cattle and Livestock Commission Company Inc. He served as a RA leader, Sunday school teacher and superintendent, deacon and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Carthage. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend. He is preceded in death by his parents, and step mother, Audrey Blackwell, sisters, Bobbie Jane, and Marsha Meador, and brother, John Norvell Blackwell. Mr. Blackwell is survived by his loving wife, Ann Blackwell of Carthage, sons, Claude Blackwell, Jr., and wife Debbie of Coppell, Bruce Blackwell of Carthage, Matthew Blackwell of Carthage, daughter, Dianah Blackwell of Carthage, brothers, Raleigh Blackwell, Jr. and wife Judy of Sargent, Willis Blackwell and wife Ann of Center, Bob Kleineke of Cuero, sisters, Ann Laster of Gonzales, Sally Guess of San Antonio, Sue Stiles and husband Clint of Cuero, Meri Nance and husband Tommy of Allen, grandchildren, Stephen, Crystal, Jacob, Katie, and Ashley, five great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Honorary pallbearers will be the Berean Sunday School Class. An online guestbook may be signed at www.hawthornfuneralhome.com
