Funeral services for Mr. Curtice Hooper, 91, of the Logan Community of Panola County, Texas will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, December 2, 2018 at Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steven Hill and Dr. Dale Reed officiating. Burial with Military Honors and Masonic Rites will be in the Adams Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will be 6-8:00 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home. Mr. Wilson Curtice Hooper was born October 15, 1927 in Panola County, Texas to Franklin Tilden and Carrie Johnson Hooper and passed away November 28, 2018 in Shreveport, Louisiana. Curtice was raised and schooled in Panola County and later served his country through the United States Navy at the end of World War II. He met and married Rebecca “Becky” Davis on June 12, 1947 and celebrated 64 years together until she preceded him in death on November 20, 2011. Mr. Hooper retired from Continental Oil after 35 years of service and later worked for Louisiana Pacific for over 20 years. Curtice was an avid hunter and a long time member and deacon at New Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Carthage Masonic Lodge #521 and a Shriner with the Sharon Temple in Tyler. Curtice is also preceded in death by his parents; son, Jerry Hooper; daughter, Karen Curbow; granddaughter, Misty Armstrong; brothers, Burton, Ferd, Cecil, Otto, Elzie and Berdette Hooper; and sister, Ivy Dell Newman. Mr. Hooper is survived by his daughter, Sherry Pride and husband Ricky of Logan; grandchildren, Bryan Pride and wife Anissa, Jamie Deville and husband Shane, Jessica Pride, Brandy Page and husband Scott, Ginger Ross and husband Ray, Gary Armstrong, Mindy Halcumb and husband Bryce, K.C. Vaughn; 22 great grandchildren; 8 great, great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Serving as pallbearers will be Rope Pride, Rider Pride, Justin Page, Ethan Gibbs, Tucker Deville, Cole Deville, Branton Halcumb and Ranzy Armstrong. Honorary pallbearers will be Pat Browning, Richard Newman and Gary Armstrong. If desired, the family requests that donations be made in Mr. Hooper’s name to New Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
