    Mrs. Dorothea "Dot" Barton

    October 19, 1939 - February 19, 2022

    Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothea “Dot” Seegers Barton, 82, of DeBerry, Texas will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday February 23, 2022, at the Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with Steve Wiggins officiating. Burial will follow in the Pierce Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Visitation will be 6-8:00 p.m. Tuesday night at Hawthorn Funeral Home. Mrs. Dorothea “Dot” Seegers Barton was born October 19, 1939, in Kilgore, Texas. She passed this life February 19, 2022, in Carthage, Texas. Dot was the baby of five children born to the marriage of Theodore Alfred T.A. “Buck” and Dora Lee Fitzgerald Seegers. She was raised in Carthage graduating with the Bulldog class of 1958. She married James Herman Barton, Jr. in 1963, together they celebrated almost 50 years of marriage and three children. Mrs. Barton worked for First State Bank almost 40 years before her retirement. She was a member of the West Panola Church of Christ, worked in the Service League and loved sewing and painting. She is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Martha Helen Howard, Bertis Gary Seegers, and T.A. “Ted” Seegers. Mrs. Barton is survived by her loving children, Gaye Daw and husband Jimmy of Joaquin, James Edward “Butch” Barton and wife Thereasa of DeBerry, Dona Wilson and husband Charles of DeBerry; sister, Mary Lou Gray of Henderson; grandchildren, Chad and Shelly Edgmon, Kraig and Kacy Edgmon, Kristy and Andrew Edmiaston, Charley and Nathan Olson, Josh and Aracely Booth, John Christopher and Leslie Barton, and Lauren and Seth Gilmore; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Serving as pallbearers will be, Robert Howard, Michael Howard, David Gray, Hunter Gray, Tanner Hall, and Nathan Olson; Honorary pallbearers will be, Bobby Howard and Jeff Conway. The family suggests memorials to the local humane society.
