    Mrs. Flora D. Cole

    January 27, 1923 - December 28, 2018

    Funeral services for Mrs. Flora D. Cole, 95, of Tatum, Texas will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 1, 2019 in the Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Roy Culley and Rev. Nathan Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Vinson Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8:00 p.m., Monday, December 31, 2018 at the funeral home. Flora D. Cole was born January 27, 1923 in the Antioch Community of Panola County, Texas to William Hiram and Naomi Hightower Hammett and passed away December 28, 2018 in Henderson, Texas. She attended New London schools and moved to Cotton Center schools in W. Texas one day before the explosion. She graduated from Tatum High School. Flora married Roy Heard Cole September 1, 1941 and they celebrated almost 78 years of marriage. She was a longtime member of the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Tatum where she taught Sunday school and started the VBS program there and was a member of W.M.S. She loved quilting, crocheting, fishing, and camping in any lake or river she could with the family she loved. She is preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Maxine Brown, Billie Baker, Johnnie Faye Manry, and Royce Cole; children, Royce Cole, Penny Cole, Gaylon Cole, Betty Cole, and Delbert Cole, and a grandson, Billy Cole. Mrs. Cole is survived by her loving husband Roy Cole of Tatum; children, Jean Cole of Henderson, Frank Cole of Tatum and Rose Jones of Beckville; sisters, June Pickett of The Woodlands and Joyce Nevenger of Livingston; brother-in-law, Tommy Manry of Natchitoches, LA; grandchildren, Jan Daniels, Glen Daniels, Wayne Cole, Richard Cole, Jesse Cole, Linda Hebert, Debbie Taylor, Virgil Cole, Beverly Iltis, Ann Cole, and Bobbie Veinstra; numerous great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends. Serving as pallbearers will be Glenn Daniels, Richard Cole, Brian Hebert, Wayne Cole, Larry Iltis, Thomas Taylor and Jesse Cole. The family requests memorials be made to Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Tatum, Texas.
