Mrs. Reid passed away on Thursday, January 31, 2019 after a short illness. Frances Reid was born on September 29, 1927 in Long Branch, Texas to James (Jimmy) and Ollie Mae Baker. She graduated from Carthage High School in the class of 1945. Frances married E. H. (Buck) Reid in 1948 and they celebrated 67 wonderful years of marriage before Buck preceded her in death in 2015. Frances and Buck loved traveling throughout the U.S. until they found a little piece of the Sangre De Cristo Mountains in Crestone, Colorado that they called home each summer. For twenty-eight years they spent many happy hours entertaining their children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and many friends in their little Blue Spruce home. Frances was a faithful member of Central Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, Training Union, and worked with the youth. She and Buck were in fellowship at the Crestone Baptist Church, which was their church home during the summer in Crestone. Frances was an avid collector. For thirty years she collected dolls and was known by many as the “doll lady”. At one time, Frances had a collection of over 10,000 dolls. She would say, “I started collecting dolls because of my granddaughters” and because when she was little their house burned down with her doll inside. Many miles and hours were spent dressing and repairing her beautiful dolls. The love of collecting dolls inspired her to begin collecting antiques. Many Saturdays were spent with special friends going to garage sales and estate sales looking for treasures. She and Buck enjoyed going to auctions and later conducting auction sales for friends. Mrs. Reid graduated from Stephen F. Austin with her Bachelor of Science degree and taught school in Longview and Carthage for 22 years. She was a member of TCTA and Panola County Retired Teachers. Frances and Buck volunteered at the Texas Tea Room and enjoyed serving friends to help with the Panola County Heritage Society. She was a member of the Rebecca Lodge of Carthage and a charter member of the Service League. One of her most rewarding volunteer experiences came as a hospice volunteer. Frances and Buck spent countless hours with friends playing “the games”. After Buck passed away, Frances continued playing four or more times a week with her special friends. Mrs. Reid is survived by her two sons, Robbie Reid of Carthage, Randy and his wife Rose Helen Reid of Carthage; two brothers-in-laws, Virgil Lee “Jr” and wife Sylvia Reid and Arthur Lyn and wife Glenda Reid both of Kilgore; grandchildren, Julie and Chris Tiller of College Station, Rhett and Beth Reid of Henderson, Tx, Emilee and Angel Vales of Dallas, Lindsey and Anthony Hammett of Lorton, VA, Laurie and Mark Prihoda of Weimer; and eight great grandchildren; Reid, Ryan, and Olivia Rose Tiller, Roston and Briley Reid, Natalia Vales, Tucker Melton and Owen Hammett, and Will Prihoda. Many nephews, nieces other relatives and a host of friends also survive Mrs. Reid. Frances was preceded in death by her husband; parents, Jimmy and Ollie baker, and brother William “Pete” Baker.
