Mrs. Gladys Van DeCarr

Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Gladys Van DeCarr, 102, of Marshall, formerly of Tyler, Texas will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 13, 2020 at the Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery with Rev. Aaron Bequette officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Mrs. Gladys Rae Broome Van DeCarr was born December 7, 1917 in Purvis, Mississippi. She passed this life February 8, 2020 in Marshall, Texas. Gladys was one of eight children born to the marriage of George Washington and Maxy E. Casey Broome. She was raised in the Baptist faith, graduating high school and college working toward her teaching credentials. She married Gordon Thomas Van DeCarr and they celebrated many years of marriage before he preceded her in death in 1997. Mrs. Van DeCarr worked in the New York school system as well as General Electric. Gladys would spend her life as a loving homemaker to her children, grandchildren, great, and great great grandchildren and family. She enjoyed the outdoors flower gardening and growing fruit trees. Mrs. Van DeCarr was a benevolent and loving person to all she knew, giving much to others in need. She is also preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, three sisters, and two grandchildren. Gladys is survived by her devoted family; sons, Don Van DeCarr and wife Charlotte of Fairfield, George Van DeCarr and wife Joan of Beckville, and David Van DeCarr of Beckville; daughters, Joan Watson and husband Vernon of Arlington, and June Durham and husband Jimmy of Ft. Mahave, Arizonia; nine grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, and fourteen great great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
