    Mr. Homer Metcalf

    November 9, 1952 - May 29, 2020

    Graveside funeral services for Mr. Homer Metcalf, 67, of Beckville, Texas, will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, 2020 at the Langley Cemetery with Rev. Wes Haefs officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Mr. Homer Ray Metcalf was born November 9, 1952, in Marshall, Texas. He passed this life May 29, 2020, at his Beckville home. Homer was one of five children born to the marriage of Roy Metcalf and Sara Jane Metcalf. He was raised and schooled in Beckville, graduating as the valedictorian of the Bearcat class of 1971. Mr. Metcalf received both his bachelors and master’s degrees in chemistry through Stephen F. Austin State University. Mr. Metcalf was trained and educated as a chemist and spent his life in farm and home pursuits. He was an avid historian who enjoyed sports and caring for and protecting animals, but loved his family of nieces and nephews, two of whom named a grandniece, and nephew after him. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Sam Calomino, and nephew-in-law Jim Sharpless. Mr. Metcalf is survived by his beloved niece, Heather Dorman Walker and husband Mark of Bryan; siblings Mickey Metcalf Dorman and husband Larry of Beckville, Bud Metcalf and wife Nina of Beckville, Sally Metcalf Dawson and husband Jim of Beckville, and Susan Metcalf Calomino of Park Ridge, IL; nieces Charity Dorman Farnsworth and Stephen of Beckville, Sarah Jane Metcalf Sharpless of Beckville, Susan Ann Metcalf Schlegel and Chris of Germantown, TN, and Gina Leigh Dawson and Tom Marquet of Philadelphia, PA; nephews Jose Gonzalez Metcalf of Carthage and USAF Lt. Col. James Roy “Jed” Dorman of Okinawa, Japan; grandnieces Jade Carpenter Bush and Jake of Florence, MT, Sara Rae Metcalf Walker of Denton and Hannah James Sharpless of Beckville; grandnephews Samuel Rhett Phillips of Longview, Chance William Farnsworth of College Station, USAF Pvt. Martin Blake Gonzalez Metcalf of Doha Qatar, Logan Frederick Schlegel of Germantown, TN, Aiden Henry Schlegel of Germantown, TN, and Lucas William Schlegel of Germantown, TN, Homer James Marquet of Philadelphia, PA; great grandnephew, Gabriel Beau Bush of Florence, MT; many other cousins, family, and a host of friends.
