Mrs. Jean Horton Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Funeral services for Mrs. Jean Horton, 86, of Bethany, Louisiana will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 21, 2022, at the Hawthorn Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in the Panola Mt. Zion Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Visitation will be 1-2:00 p.m. Monday prior to the service at Hawthorn Funeral Home. Mrs. Ruie Jean Brown Horton was born June 9, 1935, in Shreveport, Louisiana. She passed this life February 16, 2022, in Jefferson, Texas. Jean was the only daughter of four children born to the marriage of Aubrey and Aleen Hanks Brown. She was raised in Shreveport, Louisiana graduating Benton High School. She married her love Robert Ray Horton, Jr. September 22, 1951, and they celebrated 67 years together before he preceded her in death in 2019. Mrs. Horton worked for Kelly’s Truckstop, Libby Glass and was the food service manager for Elysian Fields I.S.D. She was a member of the Bethany Baptist Church, loved reading, ceramics and sporting events of her grandkids and great grandkids. She is also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Jack and Charles Brown; children, Jimmy Ray Horton and Tommy Linn Horton. Mrs. Horton is survived by her sons, Robert W. Horton of Bethany, LA, and Winston Horton and wife Cherie of Elysian Fields, daughter Aleen Adams of Dallas; brother, Wayne Brown of Quitman, LA; sisters-in-law she loved as sisters, Pat Dobson of Lawton, and Mary Lou Whisman of Bartlesville, OK; grandchildren, Christopher Horton and wife Samantha, Dustin Horton, Haley Horton, and Tamonica Horton; great grandchildren, Lezleigh Horton, Paizleigh Horton, and Aidyn Horton; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends, and special friends and neighbors, Bro. Jim Walsh and wife Kelly. Special thanks to the Terry Center of Magnolia Place in Jefferson, Marshall Homecare and Hospice, and 0Heritage House of Marshall for their excellent care. We also want to give a special thanks to Shelly Bonner, who has been our rock in caring for her. Serving as pallbearers will be, Winston Horton, Christopher Horton, Dustin Horton, Haley Horton, Bobby Horton, Wayne Brown, Rick Brown, and Lucas Brown. Honorary pallbearers will be, Donnie Rathbun and Charles Bartek. The family requests memorials in her honor to the Panola Mt. Zion Cemetery or Alzheimer’s Assoc.
