Funeral services for Mr. John Winston Conway, 78, of Carthage Texas will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 5, 2020 at the Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Dale Reed officiating. Burial will follow in the Odd Fellows Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at Hawthorn Funeral Home. Mr. John Winston Conway was born July 17, 1941 in Shreveport, Louisiana. He passed this life March 2, 2020 in Longview, Texas. John was the older of two children born to the marriage of J.P. and Margaret Droptini Conway. He was raised and schooled in Carthage graduating with the class of 1959 where he played football and received a baseball scholarship to Panola College. He also attended Stephen F. Austin State University. John married Cherie Duke June 12, 1964 and they celebrated 55 years of marriage together. Mr. Conway began his career as a field tech for United Gas Corp., Amoco and BP. After retirement, he began his company Conway Foamer Sales. John was active in the Panola County Gun Club, loved collecting guns, and shooting professionally and sharing his knowledge on both. Mr. Conway was proud to serve on the Charles Matthews Foundation for many years. He is preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Conway is survived by his loving wife Cherie Conway of Carthage; son, John Winston Conway, Jr. of Carthage; sister, Janet Conway of New London; brother-in-law, Charles Duke of White Oak; nieces and nephews, Clayton Duke, Robbie White, Destiny Duke, Candy Janik, Rob Davis, and all their families; other neighbors and friends and most of all, his beloved Maltese, Winston. Serving as pallbearers are Lance Casey, Rob Davis, Jeff Janik, Nick Kondra, Lance Davis, and James Duke. Honorary pallbearers are The Charles Matthews’s Foundation: David Bush, Richard Ballenger, Jim Payne, Vern Reeder, Robert Underwood, and Ray Schieffer.
