Services for Mr. Johnnie Harold Gibbs, 78, of Logan, Texas will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, July 15, 2019 in the Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steven Hill and Rev. Frank Vaughn officiating. Burial will follow in Reeves McMillan Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Visitation will be Sunday evening from 6 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Johnnie Harold Gibbs was born June 30, 1941 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Thomas Cecil and Mittie Odell Evans Gibbs and passed away Thursday, July 11, 2019 in Shiloh, surrounded by his loving family. He attended and graduated from Longstreet High School with the class of 1961. Johnnie met and later married Nancy Lue Carswell on August 22, 1963 and together they celebrated almost 56 years of marriage. He worked as a welder for General Electric and retired after 32 years of service. Johnnie was a member of New Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church and served as the president for Reeves McMillan Cemetery. He enjoyed sports, especially coaching and watching softball, as well as hunting, fishing and working with his cows and horses, but mostly he loved spending time with his girls and grandkids. He was a great example of what a father should be; hardworking, dependable and honest. Johnnie was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Jaclyn Courtney; brothers, Herbie and Tommy Gibbs; and in-laws who loved him dearly, Carl and Lualma Carswell. Mr. Gibbs is survived by his loving wife Nancy Gibbs of Logan; daddy to, Jennifer Journeycake and husband Shane of Shiloh and Nicole McAndrews and husband Jeff of Longview; BawBaw to, Caitlin Stout and boyfriend, Aaron Hallman, Raygin Worthington, E.J. McAndrews, Jeffrey McAndrews, Jr., Bradley McAndrews, Makensie McAndrews and one great grandson on the way; brothers, Lonnie Gibbs and wife Sandra of Logansport and Cecil Gibbs and wife Rea of Shiloh; special niece, Natalie Sells and her children, Jonathan, Tara, and Sherry; and Uncle PeeWee to numerous nieces and nephews. Serving as pallbearers will be Johnny Carswell, Sammy Mathis, Chris Wilkins, Barry Gibbs, Scott Gibbs and Brian Gibbs. The family requests memorials be made to Reeves McMillan Cemetery.
