    Mrs. Laura Elouise Vincent Lewis

    March 22, 1935 - November 8, 2018

    Funeral services for Mrs. Laura Elouise Vincent Lewis, 83, of Carthage, Texas will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, November 11, 2018 at Eastside Baptist Church in Gary, Texas with Rev. Dale Walker officiating. Burial will follow in the Gary Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will be 6-8:00 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home. Mrs. Laura Elouise Jones Vincent Lewis was born March 22, 1935 in Gary, Texas to the marriage of Casey Ray and Elsie Bea Thompson Jones. She was raised and schooled in Gary where she was head cheerleader. Elouise continued her education at Panola College and received her bachelor’s degree in education and master’s degree in English through Stephen F. Austin State University. Her career as a professional educator would span 42 years through both the Houston I.S.D. and Carthage I.S.D. teaching second grade. She was a longtime member of the Eastside Baptist Church, loved reading, collecting recipes and cooking for the family she loved. She is preceded in death by her husbands, Thomas Dean Vincent, and Robert Lewis, and a brother, Billy Joe Jones. Mrs. Lewis is survived by her daughter, Brenda Vincent Okuda and husband Eric of Carthage, step-son, Derron Lewis and wife Julie of Carthage, brother, Dale Jones and wife Anne of Carthage, grandson, Thomas Dean Vincent-Okuda of CA, brother-in-law, Lynn Vincent and wife Carol of Carthage, nieces and nephews, Kim Holcomb and husband Mitch of Carthage, Cathy Kirkland and husband Todd of Carthage, Casey Wilkerson and husband Jodie of Carthage, B. J. Jones and wife Tabitha of Carthage, and Chris Jones of Carthage, other relatives and a host of friends. Serving as pallbearers will be, Kent Martin, Brad Martin, Dean Jones, Pat Jones, B.J. Jones, and Larry Jones. The family requests memorials to the Eastside Baptist Church. An online guestbook may be signed at www.hawthornfuneralhome.com.
