Linda Rogers Maitland was called home on September 10, 2019 in Carthage, Texas at the age of 71. Linda was preceded in death by her father, June Harris Rogers; mother, Leila Rae McClain Rogers; and sister, Carolyn Rogers Dosser. She is survived by her loving husband, Weldon Maitland, of 48 years. They were married in the community of Oakland, Texas on April 2, 1971. Linda is also survived by her son and daughter in law, Craig and Amber Maitland of Hallsville; daughter and son in law, Jill and Sjohn Kelly of Carthage; grandsons, Matthew Maitland, Tyler Maitland and Aerik Kelly; sister, Doris Parrott of Burleson; sister and brother in law, Vivian and William Vaught of Rusk; sister and brother in law, Earline and Mike Anglin of Rusk; brother and sister in law, Talmadge and Jean Rogers of Vinton, LA along with numerous nieces and nephews. Linda was born in Linwood, Texas on February 20, 1948. She graduated from Alto High School in 1967 and went on to earn her license as a beautician. She later became a florist in the mid 1980's and continued this profession until the early 2000's. Linda was a very talented painter, floral designer, cook and decorator. Her "made to order breakfasts" for the grandsons were her specialty. She loved to bake and cook for her family. Chicken spaghetti, chocolate layered dessert, blackberry wine cake, sausage balls and banana bread were often requested by her children and grandsons. Along with being a long time member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church, she enjoyed spending time with her "Girls of '67", attending paint class on Tuesdays and Thursdays and visiting with friends and neighbors. Serving as pallbearers are Darren Vaught, Ryan Vaught, Scott Cockrum, Brandon Rogers, Rodney Rogers and David Waldrop. The visitation will be held at Hawthorn Funeral Home in Carthage, Texas from 6-8 pm on Friday, September 13, 2019. The funeral service will be held at Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Carthage, Texas at 10:00 am on Saturday, September 14, 2019. Burial will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Panola County Cancer Coalition or Heartsway Hospice of Northeast Texas. The family would like to thank Texas Oncology, Highland Park Senior Care, Heartsway Hospice, Christus Good Shepherd and the entire staff of doctors and nurses who took care with such kindness, compassion and determination throughout this journey.
