    Mrs. Mary Ellen Crooms Hughes

    October 9, 1935 - September 20, 2020

    Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Mary Ellen Crooms Hughes, 84, of Mt. Enterprise will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 25, 2020 at the County Line Cemetery with Bro. Wayne Butler officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Mrs. Mary Ellen Crooms Hughes was born October 9, 1935 in the Dotson Community of Panola County, Texas. She passed this life September 20, 2020 in Garrison, Texas. Mrs. Hughes was born to the marriage of Leavy Wilson and Emma Jo Hutchenson Crooms. She was raised in Dotson and the Baptist faith, schooled in Carthage, graduating with the Bulldog class of 1955. She attended Stephen F. Austin State University Business School. Mrs. Hughes worked as an administrator for Howeth House. She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands, James Emmett Fitch and James Samuel Gibbons; sisters, Gladys Wallace and Bobbie Henson; daughter, C.J. Cynthia Jo Hammond; and grandson, Chad Hillis. Mrs. Hughes is survived by her sons, Randy Lowery of Mt. Enterprise, William E. Sanders and wife Amy Mac of Carthage; daughters, Evelyn Smith Parker and husband Ricky of Arlington, TN, Sue Ellen Basile and husband John of New Haven, Michigan; brother, Kervin Crooms and wife Becky of Dotson; sisters, Geneva Griffin and husband Wayne of Carthage; grandchildren, Phillip Kerlec of Ripley, TN, Tammy Kerlec Swann of Arlington, TN, Jodie Barber and husband Ian of Arlington, TN, Ely Sanders of Carthage, Amy Lee Summers of Hugo, OK; 16 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
