Funeral services for Mrs. Melba Jean Goodman Hayden, 96, better known as Ms. Jean will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 17, 2019 at the Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Aaron Bequette officiating. Burial will follow in the Restland Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Visitation will be 6-8:00 p.m. Wednesday night at the funeral home. Mrs. Melba Jean Raimond Goodman Hayden was born January 6, 1923 in Center, Shelby County, Texas; she passed this life January 15, 2019. Born to the marriage of Dolphus James and Nancy Jane Anderson Raimond, Jean was the oldest of their two children. She was raised and schooled in Shelbyville, Texas. She married Lamar Calvin Brittain in 1941 and they would have two children before he preceded her in death in 1944. She married James Willis Goodman and they would have a long happy life and two children before he preceded her in death in 1988. Ms. Jean then married Douglas Clifford Hayden who would precede her in death in 2003. She would spend her time as a loving homemaker, housewife, and worked as a clerk for Ben Franklin, and W&W Variety Store, retiring from Perry Brothers. Jean was a member of Northside Christian Center and enjoyed travel through her time share on mini Vacations. Ms. Jean was a loving dear friend to all who knew her, and that loving spirit will be missed. She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands; daughter, Jeanette Dison; granddaughter, Dawn Cassity Bellamy; and grandson, Randy Bellamy. Ms. Jean is survived by her son, Willie G. Goodman and wife Wanda of Beckville; daughters, Bobby Jean Gentry of Lakeport, Carolyn Braly and husband Larry of Longview, Step daughter, Barbara Holcomb of Hemphill; sister, Ida Taylor of Tyler; Grandchildren, Rhonda Freeman and husband Gary, David Wells, step grandchildren, Lindsey Tipton and husband Josh, Cody Scoggins and wife Nichole; great grandchildren, Robert Cook, Randall Stanley, Christine Hubbard, Terry Pappas and husband John, Klayton Cassity and wife Josi, Jaycee Tipton, and Brylee Tipton; great, great grandchildren, Jason Hancock, Will Pappas, Gentry Beck, and Kennedy Clements; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Serving as pallbearers will be, William Jolley, Rickey Smith, Keith Nutt, Clayton Eubanks, Zack Holcomb, Ray Conatser, and Klayton Cassity. Honorary pallbearers will be, Bro. Billy Shoffner, and Dr. Keith Keeling. The family requests memorials to the Northside Christian Center.
