Mrs. Nellie Sue Koonce

Funeral service for Mrs. Sue Koonce, 87, of Carthage, Texas will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 23, 2022, at Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dale Walker officiating. Burial will follow in the Restland Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Visitation will be 6:30 – 8:30 Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at Hawthorn Funeral Home. Mrs. Nellie Sue Koonce was born February 28, 1935, in Halleyville, Alabama. She passed peacefully from this life to her heavenly home on June 18, 2022, in Chandler, Texas. Sue was the daughter of Kathren Ables Sutton and Zachary Hogan. Sue married the love of her life Herbert Koonce at the age of 18. Together they celebrated 52 years together before he proceeded her in death in 2005. They lived in Houston for many years before moving to Carthage, Texas. She was the owner of “Sue’s Beauty Salon” and worked for several years as a cosmetologist prior to their move. She was an avid gardener and loved taking care of her beautiful yard and sharing her beautiful flowers and plants with many. She had a heart for service and spent many years volunteering at her church and in her community. She and Herbert loved to travel and spend time with their friends and family. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She is preceded in death by her beloved son Barry in 1997. Mrs. Koonce is survived by her daughter Debbie Brewer and husband Gary of Chandler, Texas, grandchildren Jonathan Brewer and wife Kristin of Chandler, Texas, Morgan Brewer of Chandler, Texas, great – grandchildren Kyndall and Beau Brewer of Chandler Texas, and many nieces and nephews. Serving as pallbearers will be Jonathan Brewer, Charles Bailey, Johnny Hall, Sydney Burns, Rusty Koonce, and Cameron Barton.
