Mr. Norman Reid Carter

Graveside funeral services for Mr. Norman Reid Carter, Jr. 81, of Carthage, Texas will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 13, 2020 at the Restland Memorial Park Cemetery with Mark Carter officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday morning at Hawthorn Funeral Home prior to the service. Mr. Norman Reid Carter, Jr. was born August 12, 1938 in Henderson, Texas. He passed this life February 10, 2020 in Longview, Texas. Reid was one of four children born to the marriage of Norman Reid and Alma Lorene Geerdes Carter. He was raised and graduated schools in Henderson, Texas. Reid married Yvonne Rhiddlehoover May 28, 1959 and they celebrated 60 years of marriage together. Reid worked 53 years as a pipe fabricator for Brown and Root, Hudson Energy, Eastman Power Plant, Carter Texas Corp., and Grand Bluff Construction, before his retirement. He loved the outdoors fishing, and spending time, talking with family and friends. Reid is preceded in death by his Parents; brother, James Edward Carter; sister, Norma Jane Jennings; and son-in-law, Greg Gates. Mr. Carter is survived by his loving wife, Yvonne Carter of Carthage; daughters, Rhonda Gates of Houston, Regina Humphries and husband Charles of Carthage; sister, Marilyn Mason of Dallas; grandchildren, Mary Linn King and husband Cody of Liberty Hill, Karen Leann Gates of Houston, Aaron Humphries of Livingston, David Humphries and wife Sarah of Woods Community; great grandchildren, Charlie Humphries, Ellis Kate King, Roman David Humphries, and Emmy Linn King; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Serving as pallbearers will be, Aaron Humphries, David Humphries, Cody King, Norman Jennings, Jeremy Carter, and Andrew Carter. Honorary pallbearers will be Charlie Humphries, and Phillip Carter.
