    Mr. Philip "Waldo" Waldrop

    January 23, 1946 - January 27, 2020

    Funeral services for Mr. Philip “Waldo” Waldrop, 74, of Carthage, Texas will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 1, 2020 at the Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Allen Tilley and Mr. Mike Roquemore officiating. Burial will follow in the Odd Fellows Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Visitation will be 6-8:00 p.m. Friday night at Hawthorn Funeral Home. Mr. Philip Wayne “Waldo” Waldrop was born January 23, 1946 in Henderson, Texas. He passed this life January 27, 2020 in Longview, Texas. Mr. Waldrop was the younger of two children born to the marriage of Barnie Lee and Julia Fay Gentry Waldrop. He was raised and schooled in Carthage graduating with the class of 1965. Philip served his country through the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era with the 25th Infantry Division receiving his Vietnam Service Medal with a Bronze Service Star, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Infantry Badge and a Purple Heart. Philip married Elizabeth Ann Seegers and they raised one son and celebrated almost 50 years of marriage. Mr. Waldrop worked in the Oil and Gas Industry through United Gas/Entex for almost ten years, Pennzoil and Devin Energy Production Company retiring after 20 years of service. After his retirement he worked for Smith Equipment. Philip loved the outdoors. He was an avid sportsman, hunting, fishing and cooking. He was a loving, son, brother, husband, and father who was always respectful to his fellow man. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Diana Waldrop Herring; nephew, Clint Herring. Mr. Waldrop is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth Waldrop of Carthage; and son, Kevin Waldrop of Carthage, as well as many other friends and neighbors. Serving as pallbearers will be, Mike Roquemore, Tim Shadowens, Richard Anderson, Gary Hickey, Josh Gray, and John DeWitt, honorary pallbearers will be, Colby Gray, Wendell McNeely, Truman Shirey, Blake Seegers, Patrick Davis, and Erik Davis.
