Funeral Services for Mr. Rodney Lynn Downing, age 75 of Gary, Texas will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 31, 2022, in the Hawthorn Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Carl Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in Mt Bethel Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Rodney Lynn Downing was born on November 25, 1946, in Carthage, Texas to the marriage of Lenard Thurlow “LT” and Ruby Mae Clark Downing. He passed this life on March 24, 2022, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Downing enjoyed spending time fishing, camping and being outdoors. He was a lover of nature and a carpenter by trade. He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Traci Lynnette Downing; two brothers, Luther and Troy Downing, and son-in-law, Jason Harrison. Mr. Downing is survived by his loving wife, Doris Butcher Downing of Gary; his children, Terri Lynn Brown, Teresa Ann Myers, Shelia Ann Bolling, all of Osawatomie, Kansas, Marilynn Sue Harrison of Deadwood and Rodney Lynn Downing Jr of Gary; stepchildren, Belinda Hughes of Ft. Worth, Marie Robinson and husband Michael of Denton, Deanne Williams and husband Dallas of Joshua, Beth Downing and husband Nicholas of Gary, Jason and Jamie Calhoun, Shella Stotts, Ryan McKinley, Regina Heiman and her husband James, and Jonathan Brimer; brothers, Jimmie and wife Cathy Downing of Gary, Billy Wayne and wife Debra Downing of Gary and sister Mary Sue and husband Lanny Kiper of Carthage. Also surviving him are numerous nieces, nephews, grandkids, and great grandkids. Serving as pallbearers are Billy Wayne Downing, Jimmie Downing, Alex Downing, Rodney Downing Jr, Waymon Beasley and James Heiman.
