Mrs. Betty Bounds

Funeral services for Mrs. Betty Jo Pearce Bounds, 87, of Carthage, Texas will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 18, 2015 at the Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Odd Fellows Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Visitation will be 6-8:00 p.m. Thursday night at the funeral home. Mrs. Bounds died December 14, 2015 in Shreveport, Louisiana. Mrs. Betty Jo Pearce Bounds was born August 31, 1928 in Waskom, TX to Burdette Charles and Myrtle Gertrude Pearce. Betty and George Young Bounds were married June 27, 1947. At 87 years of age Betty was still living in the house that George built for her on Bounds Street during their engagement. A believer in education, Betty returned to college as an adult to study at Stephen F. Austin, earning a double major in English and in History, a Masters of Science in History, and a Masters of Science in Counseling. She was a favorite teacher at Koonce Jr. High and Carthage High School for many years before leaving the classroom to become a counselor at CHS. Her annual yearbook picture always showed her with her signature cup of coffee at hand. With her razor sharp wit and keen ability to tell a story, BeBe had the gift to take an experience, tie it up with a laugh and a wink, and leave you with a life lesson wrapped in a smile. She has left a legacy to her children and grandchildren of love of family, hard work, the value of commitment, devotion to god, strong moral character, generosity, and a lifetime of friendships. There is no sadness today because she is rejoicing in heaven with the love of her life, George Young. She is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years George Young Bounds. Mrs. Bounds is survived by their children Phil Bounds and wife Victoria of Austin, TX and Phyllis Warren of Haughton, LA. Grandchildren Clint Bounds of Dallas, Katy Bounds of Austin, Rebekah Miller and husband Clay of Dallas, and Travis Warren and wife Lauren of Hot Springs, AR. Great-grandchildren Harper Rose Bounds-Campbell and Elle Broox Warren. The family would like to thank her loving caregivers Loretta Etheredge, Jesse Tatum, Johnnie Collier, and Mike Nickerson for allowing her to stay in the home she loved.
